Blog Tour and Review: Come to Me Recklessly, by A.L. Jackson

Synopsis

From the New York Times bestselling author of Come to Me Softly comes another irresistible new adult romance in the Closer to You series.

His heart was turned off…
Until she turned him on…

Christopher Moore gave up on the idea of love years ago. Now, his life is an endless string of parties and an even longer string of girls. Enjoying the physical perks with none of the emotional mess, he’s convinced everyone that he’s satisfied—everyone but himself.
Samantha Schultz has moved on with her life. Finishing her student teaching and living with her boyfriend, she’s deluded herself into believing she’s content. But there is one boy she never forgot—her first love—and she keeps the memory of him locked up tight. She will never allow any man to break her the way Christopher did.
When Christopher’s sister and her family move into a new neighborhood, Christopher is completely unprepared to find Samantha living at the end of the street. Memories and unspent desires send them on collision course of sex, lies, and lust. But when guilt and fear send Samantha running, Christopher will have to fight for what has always been his.

“No one tells a story about "The One" with as much beauty and tragedy as AL Jackson does. You can't read her words without having them sink deep inside of you and sticking around like a favorite memory.” ~ New York Times bestselling author Jay Crownover

Excerpt
Then I turned and rushed to the sliding glass door. I went to duck inside, when my path was obstructed by an imposing figure at the doorway, the man a full foot taller than my five foot four. I didn’t want to look up, but I couldn’t stop myself from being drawn, and his warm breath washed over my face.
Chills cascaded in a dizzying wave down my spine, before the venom in his voice lifted the hairs at the nape of my neck, the words cold and deathly quiet. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing here?”
Lost in the searing anger blazing in his green eyes, I stammered for an answer. “I…I…”
I swallowed hard and he leaned in closer, his nose brushing mine, and I was suddenly drowning in everything Christopher Moore—the way he smelled, clean, like a breath of the morning’s freshest air, but still something else entirely intoxicating, like sex and lust and everything I’d ever wanted but knew I shouldn’t have.
My thoughts went fuzzy as I got lost in it, before that wicked voice snapped me back. “Stay away from my family.” Like a caress, he trailed his finger along the line of my jaw, lifting a line of goose bumps in its wake; before he hooked it under my chin, bringing his mouth a centimeter from mine.
There was no stopping the way my lips parted on instinct, as if they’d forever been waiting for his. His heat spread across my face, and I felt myself leaning forward.
“And stay the fuck away from me.”
Stunned, I stared, my mouth gaping open with offended shock and my body reeling from the need he’d spun up in me.

Review
4.5 out of 5 stars

AL Jackson is one of our favorite authors.  Anytime a book of hers is released, we just know in our gut it is going to be good.  We were already invested in the Closer to You series and absolutely loved the first two books about Aly and Jared.  If you haven't read them you're missing out and should one click them now!

We have been counting down the days to the release of Come to Me Recklessly.  Christopher Moore, Aly's brother, is in the first two books and to say he has issues is an understatement.  We were dying to know what made him tick!  He is a character whose with a different girl every night and doesn't ever care to get close to anyone.  But occasionally, you see these brief spots where the longing for more out of life appears.  It doesn't take long to figure out that the reason for his anger, anguish and torture is Samantha Schultz.  She has haunted him since he was 16.

Samantha is a totally lovable and relatable character.  She is a genuine person with a heart for others, she is the kind of person who seems to always see the good in people.  But, to really understand her core I think it's important to note she is a pastor's daughter.  While some may think this is a silly label I think it's important to recognize there are actual and very real expectations that go along with this title.  There is a lot of pressure to always be good and do the right thing.  And sometimes, you just want to break free and live for yourself.  Samantha has struggled with these expectations her whole life and has truly never gotten past the heartbreak of young love.  Pleasing your parents, being the person everyone expects you to be yet finding and becoming the person you are meant to be is overwhelming and oftentimes the road to getting there is more than bumpy.  AL Jackson told Samantha's story with such detail and passion, I couldn't help but cross my fingers and hope Samantha found the strength to claim a future chosen solely by herself.

It was interesting to see this story unfold.  While I had a pretty good idea of where the story was going, AL Jackson is such a fantastic story teller that she drew me into the character's lives with ease.  While I do feel the progression and pace of this story was a little slower than the previous books in this series I thought AL did a fantastic job at transitioning between the present and past which was definitely essential in order for the entire picture to unfold.  So, will Christopher and Samantha overcome their past and their fears and find their happily every after with one another or will their fears and misunderstandings stand in the way of their destinies?  Give this book and chance and find out for yourself!
