Review
5 out of 5 stars

I was kind of in a book slump when I started this book so my expectations were pretty low for finding something that would captivate and impress me.  Surviving Ice couldn't have been read at a better time for me because this book was just what I needed to get me out of a serious rut!  I loved every minute of this story.  It was unique, sexy, suspenseful, so much so that when I sat down to read it I actually read it cover to cover without putting it down.  I loved this one, and I have to say Ivy's story is probably my most favorite of the series.

Ivy is a talented tattoo artist who goes through life drifting from one place to another.  She hasn't really ever settled anywhere because none of the places she has worked or lived every really felt like home, nor was there ever really anything pulling at her heart strings making her want to stay.  She most recently re-located to California and is working in her uncle's shop, the uncle who taught her everything things she knows about her profession.  He's the one who ignited her passion for tattooing, the one who believes in her, accepts and loves her just as she is.  Just as she is beginning to feel settled, of feeling like she may want to plant permanent roots, she unexpectedly finds herself witnessing her uncle's murder.

Ivy is left shocked, horrified and desperate to run as far away from California as possible, but packing up and moving this time around isn't going to be so easy.  You see she has to help her cousin sell the house and the business both of which are going to require a lot of work.  Not to mention the customer's who keep knocking on her door, especially Sebastian, a new, mysterious customer who she cannot get out of her mind.  As things further develop with Sebastian, the mystery around her uncle's murder continues to grow leaving Ivy questioning every detail surrounding that night so, with no other choice other than figuring out exactly what happened and with the hopes of bringing her uncle justice she decides to stay, at least until the mystery is solved.

I totally loved Sebastian's character.  He is a quiet force.  His role is meant to study Ivy, find out what she knows and eliminate her if needed.  A former Navy Seal who know works in "private security" has never left a mission incomplete, but with Ivy nothing is at it seems and the more he gets to know of her the harder it is for him to stay away.  These two are so similar yet different enough that as a couple they bring out the best in one another.

Surviving Ice is perfectly paced, the story isn't rushed and things fall into place brilliantly.  I was afraid when the truth comes out that Ivy's reaction would be over the top, but it was genuine, real, heartbreaking and yet she handled it with grace and honesty.  I didn't want the story to end.  Spending time with Ivy and Sebastian made for an excellent escape from reality!  I love KA Tucker's ability to take readers on a unique journey where mystery and suspense dominate the journey and romance unfolds naturally.  Absolutely buy and read this book today!

EXCERPT:

I beeped the locks and had a hand to the handle when I heard, “Lookin’ for me?”
When that deep, coarse voice came at me through the dark, my body became paralyzed, my eyes glued to my hand on the handle.
Then it kept coming at me.
“Bitch, followed you the last forty-five minutes. Reb got in touch. Told me you hit Scruff’s.” On the next, the voice was nearer. “You’re lookin’ for me. So tell me what the fuck you want so you can quit lookin’ and I can quit lookin’ at you.” Slowly, I turned, my head going back automatically because I felt him close and I knew what close to Logan meant.
I was five-seven.
He was six-one.
He towered over me, or at least that’s what it always felt like because he wasn’t only tall, he was also a big guy with a big presence.
And right then, it felt like that, especially since his big presence was an angry one.
His face was in shadows, I could barely see it.
But I could feel him.
And I could smell him.
God, I could smell him.
He didn’t wear cologne or aftershave. His scent was all his. And I remembered lying in our bed holding his pillow to me, my face shoved into the sheets, taking him in after I’d made him walk away.
His scent hadn’t changed. Not even a nuance.
Smelling it without warning felt like walking unsuspecting into the street and having a truck slam into you. And that feeling was so strong it was a wonder my body didn’t go careening through the trucks and bikes, slamming into them, shattering every bone.
He moved forward so he was in my space, the smell strengthened and my body tightened to guard against it.
“Woman, after all this time, whatever shit you gotta hand me, fuckin’ do it,” he ordered irately. “You got two seconds to spit it the fuck out. You don’t, you won’t get another chance, and you know I’ll make it that way. So this is your only shot. Take it or get in your fuckin’ car and get your ass outta my world.”
I stared into the shadows of his face, wishing with everything that I could see it.
Apparently, I did this for two seconds because Logan bit out, “Right. See nothin’s changed. Weak. Now get your ass . . .” he dipped his face to mine, “gone.”
And when he did, I got up on my toes and kissed him.
It was totally crazy.
But I also totally couldn’t help it.
He smelled so fucking good.
And he was Logan.
Close. Right there. His face in mine.
He jerked away, muttering a disgusted, “What the fuck?”
But the words or their tone didn’t penetrate.
I smelled him and I’d had a taste.
I was gone.
I lifted both hands to either side of his head, yanked him down to me, and went back in, going for it, giving it my all. Even when his fingers clenched painfully into my hips pushing them back to set me away, I held on tighter and shoved my tongue between his lips.
It touched his, just that, just a touch, and then I cried out into his mouth when I found my back slammed into my SUV.
But it wasn’t his way to get me to let him go.
No.
His head slanted and he forced my tongue out of his mouth when his invaded mine.
And that was when I was gone.
I was already gone but right then there was nothing to me.
Nothing at all.
Except my hands on Logan’s head, his body pressing mine into my car, his smell all around us, his tongue plundering my mouth, all this exploding fire everywhere.
He drove a hand into my hair, twisting it, the pain bristling over my scalp and I cried out into his mouth again even as I arched deeper, pressed closer, willing, like it had always been, to give it all because he was Logan, he got it all.
But also because I knew I’d get it back a hundredfold.
He swayed us forward so his other arm could lock across my back and he kept at my mouth as I rolled way up on my toes, pushing deep, wrapping my arms around his neck, consumed by the kiss and not giving that first fuck.
I was ready to ride it out.
No, I needed to ride it out.
No matter where it went.
He broke away and that was when my hand went into his hair, fisting tight in protest.
“That what you want?” he growled, his voice lower, the abrasion physical, and I shivered with delight.
I wasn’t entirely certain of the question but I answered a breathy, “Yes.”
“That’s what you want,” he repeated, a statement this time, seeking confirmation.
“Yes, Logan.”
He let me go but took my hand, his skin rough against my fingers. The feel of it back after all these years washed through me and I fancied I remembered every time, in quick succession, from the first night we met to the night before I broke it off when he’d taken my hand and guided me somewhere.
Lost in it like I’d always been lost in it, I followed blindly.
Attached to Logan, I’d go anywhere.
Even if we were walking through fire.

REVIEW:  4 of 5 Stars

I just started the Chaos series earlier this month.  And other than Knight, these are my only KA reads.  Apparently, I started in the wrong spot and should have started with some other MC books.  One of my favorite author groups on FB says to start with the Dream Man series and I would like these books more.  So, if you haven't already read the Dream Man series and you want to read Chaos, try those first and I think the story lines will flow better for you and the character connections will be easier to follow.

Logan/High has been burned in his life.  He only lives for his daughters and his Chaos brothers.  He is a good-hearted, loving man that has been hurt and turned bitter.  His character is probably my favorite in the Chaos series because I had a better connection with him.

Millie is high class.  She hurt Logan/High and has had to live with her mistake for years.  No matter how successful she is, she can't fill the void in her life that he left.  When she sees him by chance, her world is turned upside down.

This book is full of emotion, flash backs and drama.  It is my favorite of the series.  I think that the character development is better and just the overall I connected better with everyone.  This is a good second chance romance book and I think most people will enjoy it.

About the author:
Kristen Ashley grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana, and has lived in Denver, Colorado, and the West Country of England. Thus she has been blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her posse is loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. Kristen was raised in a house with a large and multigenerational family. They lived on a very small farm in a small town in the heartland, and Kristen grew up listening to the strains of Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon, and Whitesnake. Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music and love was a good way to grow up. And as she keeps growing up, it keeps getting better.

Review: Rip by Rachel Van Dyken

Release week 2.99 Pricing! Stand alone Mafia Romance. Because of violence and subject matter, not recommended for younger readers! --RVD

Synopsis
Pretty things aren't meant to be broken. But I broke her, and now we both have to pay the price. I'm her nightmare. I'm her savior. And now that I have her signature on an ironclad contract, I own her body and soul. She doesn't remember me. She will. It's inevitable. Because as much as I know I need to stay away, for fear of unlocking the memories I helped her father bury--I can't. She was the apple in the Garden, dangled in front of me, her core so tempting and sweet. A voice whispered. Just. One. Bite. I bit. I tasted. I fell. Welcome to the world of the Russian mafia, where death, is your only future.

Review
4.75 of 5 Stars

Well, it is official, Rachel Van Dyken never falls short!  Rip is a stand alone mafia novel about the Russian mafia.  It does include characters from her Eagle Elite series.  You don't have to read the EE series beforehand, but you should. Otherwise you are going to miss out on an epic series and characters!

Rip focuses on the story of Maya Petrov.  Maya is a driven young woman whose primary focus is on her medical research studies with the long term goal of escaping her dark, ruthless family.  Her father is basically a scum of the earth, Russian mafia boss.  The difference between her dad and the italian mafia featured in EE?  Simple, he has no boundaries or conscious.  He will hurt anyone in his path and even sell Maya to the highest bidder.  For all that Maya has experienced in her young life, she has such strength and passion.  I totally loved her character and really enjoy reading from her POV.

Nikolai Blazik is the high bidder, if you will.  He is pure genius;  not only a gifted doctor, but one who also leads the world on STD research.  He is rich, famous, and did I mention hot?  But alas, Nikolai's life may look picture perfect, but underneath it all he's a tortured soul. Genius that he is, Nik has crafted a very unique ability to "brainwash" and hypnotize others, and unfortunately this skill has taken him down a very dark, dangerous path.  I loved and hated him at the same time.  After the first 25% of the book though, he really started to grow on me.  You really begin to see a lot more about him as the story continues and I am happy to report that I love his character now.

Rip is without a doubt more dark than RVD's other mafia books, but she nevertheless weaved a great captivating story in the pages.  I love how she can seamlessly weave humor into the most serious of situations at just the right time.  Some of my favorite parts of the book included the pages where the five families presence were felt, they not only bring comic relief, but in this instance their presence offered the hero and heroine an opportunity to lean on one another, the chance to join forces or remain enemies.  Rachel Van Dyken can write a plot twist like no other, and believe the one in this book will not disappoint.  Job well done, Rachel!

Blog Tour and Review: Cherished by You, by Steph Nuss

Title: Cherished by You (Love in the City #4)
Author: Steph Nuss
Release Date: Oct 7, 2015
Find on Goodreads

Synopsis

“Move in with me,” he said.

Being cherished is how Tessa Wilder always imagined falling in love. But for years, she’s always gone for the wrong guys. Now that she’s fallen for one of the good ones, she fears rejection.

“I can’t,” she replied.

Justin Jameson quit looking for a woman after being used so many times for his brains. A bit of an introvert and completely oblivious to women’s advances, he can’t even see that his friend cherishes everything about him.

When Tessa needs a place to stay, Justin’s the first to offer her a room. Hearts are opened; feelings are ventured. They’ll finally know what it’s like to be cherished in the city until one moment threatens the relationship they’ve built.

“I can’t lose you.”

Excerpt
“I can’t believe you agreed to live with a woman,” Cash said, sitting down on the couch in my living room with a beer in his hand.
It was Saturday afternoon, and most of the gang was over at my place, waiting for Tessa and her brother to arrive so we could help move all of her stuff in. Maverick and Harper were at home with their baby girl, Seghen, and Paige had a work function with a client.
I really couldn’t believe it either. I’d never had a roommate before who wasn’t some sort of family member, but I knew I didn’t want Tessa living in some dilapidated hole in Grand Concourse again. Just hearing her talk about growing up there pissed me off.
“Living with a woman isn’t so bad,” Carter stated proudly, with his arm slung over Elly’s shoulder. “They make the place smell good. They’re nice to look at.”
“They cook,” Fletcher added, rubbing Bayler’s thigh. They weren’t living together yet, but they stayed together enough that he enjoyed the benefits of Bayler’s excellent cooking skills.
“Not all of them cook,” Carter retorted, nodding his head toward his wife.
“Hey!” Elly exclaimed, smacking him in the stomach. “I’m cooking your baby right now.”
The room filled with laughter as I paced over to the window and looked down at the sidewalk. I was nervous because I wasn’t sure whether or not Tessa would like living with me. I’d had the place cleaned twice this week in anticipation of her arrival.
“But Tessa loves cooking,” Elly continued, smiling up at me. “You can finally stop eating out every night.”
I scoffed, glancing over my shoulder at her. “I don’t eat out every night.”
Bayler laughed. “All you have in your fridge are takeout boxes and condiments.”
“And beer!” Carter said, clinking his bottle with Fletcher’s.
“Ladies,” Fletcher stated, shaking his head at the women. “Jameson has the necessities. Lay off him.”
“Tessa is going to freak when she sees the fridge,” Elly said, laughing along with Bayler.
I turned to face the gang as anxiety tumbled in my stomach. “What do you mean? Why would she freak out?”
“Because Tessa enjoys cooking,” Bayler explained.
“Yeah,” Elly said, nodding. “She’s used to having a stocked kitchen, especially since she’s cooked for her and her brother most of her life.”
Now I felt bad about not going grocery shopping. The truth was, I did order takeout often, only because it was easier than attempting to cook a meal. I’d grown up with either a maid cooking for me or my grandma, but no matter how many times Janice Jameson tried to teach me how to cook, the meal never turned out the way she made it.
“You guys can go grocery shopping later,” Cash said, running through the television channels. “That way she can pick out whatever the hell she wants.”
“Maybe she’ll even teach you how to cook,” Elly teased, nudging my arm.
“Yeah,” Bayler continued, pointing her beer bottle at me. “Every guy should know how to cook. Women love a home-cooked meal they don’t have to make themselves.”
“I’m not trying to find a woman,” I stated, furrowing my brows.
The gang laughed at my candid response, despite the fact that it was true. I’d practically given up on finding a good woman during my college years. The girls I seemed to attract back then only wanted my help passing a class. The only date I’d been on since was a few years ago when my grandma set me up with her neighbor, Elly. The chemistry wasn’t there, so we became friends instead, which was perfectly fine with me. She was still in love with Carter, and I’d been a loner most of my life. When Carter moved back to New York, he and Elly started dating, and I gained another friend. Our group of friends continued to grow after that with the addition of Carter’s sisters, Harper and Bayler, falling for two of our own, Maverick and Fletcher.
“I call bullshit, Justin,” Bayler exclaimed, rolling her eyes. She leaned into Fletcher’s side and rested her feet up on the coffee table.
The laughter quickly died down at her blunt retort.
“Excuse me?” I asked, deflecting my surprise.
“All men are predisposed to think with their penises,” she explained, entertaining everyone with her words. “I don’t care how much of a genius you are; you’re still a man, which means that brain of yours down south is focused on sex just like every other man’s.”
Laughter grew louder around me as I stared her down, the smile spreading wide across my face. We got a kick out of giving each other a hard time, and I enjoyed dishing it out just as much as everyone else. Leaning down next to her ear, I said, “No, Bayler, what I meant was, I don’t have to try to find a woman.”
She nearly spit out her beer as she smacked me on the arm and laughed. “See! Just like every other guy! I knew you had a dick in there somewhere, Jameson.”
“Is this the part where I tell you I know how to use it, too?” I asked sarcastically, laughing along with her.
A knock on the door sounded before she could reply, so I walked over to answer it. Opening the door, I found Tessa and a younger guy standing behind her, with three suitcases resting at their sides and a duffle bag slung across his body. She wore an old pair of ripped jeans and a hoodie. Her long brown hair was knotted on top of her head, but it was her light blue-gray eyes smiling back at me that caught my attention the most.
“Hey,” I said, grabbing one of the rollers. “Come on in.”
“Thanks,” she said, crossing the threshold into my apartment.

Review
4 out of 5 stars

I've enjoyed the books in this series and Carter has always been my favorite male lead, that is until I got to know Justin Jameson.  He's the underdog, the cinderella story of this series if you will.  In all the other books I feel like his presence has always been just there.  Nothing has ever really stood out about him that made me go, I want to know you more.  So needless to say Cherished by You surprised me in the best way possible and Justin stole the show!  He's smart, intelligent, sensitive, caring a little awkward and if you can believe underneath it all he's sexy as hell!  And he will make you swoon.  When it comes to Justin appearances are certainly deceiving, especially around girls, he may seem like a fish out of water, but that couldn't be more from the truth.  He knows what he wants, how to get it and how to make a girl melt!

I like Tessa.  She is strong, independent, motivated, sensitive, creative and fiercely protective of her friends and family.  All that aside though, with her background (one in which she had no control over) she doesn't believe she deserves Justin.  So if anything, Tessa isn't necessarily confident in what she has to offer someone.  Of course isn't it true we are harder on ourselves than other people?  She views her past as tainted, yet those on the outside only see how those experiences have shaped her into the incredible woman she is.  I appreciated how unique author Steph Nuss created Tessa's back story.  I love how she created her character to be straightforward and honest, it may have taken Tessa a while to decide what she wanted but once she did, she didn't play any games.

Cherished By You moved at a perfect pace.  The story didn't feel rushed nor was it boring.  Tessa and Justin make a great couple and compliment each other well.  Honestly as much as I love Elly and Carter, Tessa and Justin took the spot as my favorite couple, and favorite book in this series thus far.  Please note that while this one can be read as a standalone, I loved getting to check in with the other couples we've read about and I have to say I'm intrigued as to what's going on with Paige.

The Love in the City series is about a group of friends looking for love in New York City. Each book is about a different couple, so they can be read as standalones. The stories are told from both the female and male point of views, and they all end in happily ever afters, no cliffhangers here! Finally, all the book covers are different colors to represent a certain awareness or cause that is referenced in each book. Grab the first book in the series, Wanted By You, for FREE today!

Review:  3.75 of 5 stars

I have a confession, this is my first MC series.  I was pretty excited to start it because I have heard so many good things about them.  I really was not sure what to expect, but it was nothing like I thought it was going to be.

Tabby is the daughter of the Chaos MC leader, Tack Allen.  At the beginning of the book she is a rebellious teenager and when Shy gets a call to get her out of a bad situation for the millionth time, he goes ballistic on her.  After the horrible interaction, their nonexistent relationship goes from bad to worse.

Parker "Shy" Cage has his own heartbreaking story and I loved the parts of the book that focused on his past and his growth from it.  I think he is a great strong character and I love his passion.  He tends to fly off the handle easily, but I guess that is to be expected from a badass biker.

My biggest "issue" with this book is that I had a hard time reading the slang.  I totally understand writing a character's language.  I am sure that a lot of people hate reading a southern boy dialogue because the grammar might be incorrect, however, that doesn't usually bother me.  I just can't stand the fact that the men in the book called their girlfriends/significant other/wife old lady or bitch.  I got news for you, my husband calls me that, and he is getting a black eye!  LOL!

Regardless, the story was fun but had plenty of drama.  If you like a detailed story with lots of angst, give this one a shot.

Synopsis:
Lanie Heron isn't looking for love-no surprise, considering her last serious relationship nearly got her killed. So when Lanie propositions Hop Kincaid, all she wants is one wild night with the hot-as-hell biker who patrols with the Chaos Motorcycle Club . . .

For Hop, Lanie has always been untouchable. She's too polished and too classy for his taste. But when she gives Hop the once-over with her bedroom eyes and offers him a night in paradise, he can't say no. And he doesn't regret it when he finds that Lanie is the best thing that's ever happened to him-in or out of bed. Now the trick will be to convince her of that.

Review:  3.75 of 5 stars

Fire Inside is the second book in the Chaos series by Kristen Ashley.  This story focuses on Lanie, Cherry's best friend.  She is classy and the polar opposite of what you picture when you hear the word biker babe.  She has had a rough past, but I am happy that she found comfort in the arms of Hop.

Hop Kincaid is your typical biker.  Bossy, bad ass, and as alpha as they come.  Now, I haven't read the other books that have these characters in them, so it was confusing at times for me.  Apparently, Hop did some things in other books that pissed people off.  But I couldn't quite follow what the hell he did that was so horrible.

This story runs parallel to Tabby and Shy and I just thought it was a little long and drawn out.  I wish it would have been a novella and I think I would have enjoyed it more.  That being said, if you are a Kristen Ashley fan, you will probably love this book. Especially if you have read the other books that Hop is in.

Synopsis:
The ride of her life . . . Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy---until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa's pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.

Climb on and hold tight . . .
In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he's the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa's acting, it's clear she's falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker's secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa---or ride away forever . . .

Review:  4 of 5 stars

We all have heard the expression "Opposites Attract".  This book is that in a nutshell.

Joker is one the Chaos MC members and has had quite a rough life.  He escaped an abusive situation and joined the club and chose his family with them.  He has a huge heart though and is the ultimate alpha male.  There are several places in the book that he literally makes your heart melt, but there are equal parts that make you pissed off at him.  Hehe!

Carissa Teodoro was the most popular girl in high school.  The head cheerleader, homecoming queen, all american girl that has it all.  But when her jack ass ex-husband leaves her alone and pregnant, she finds herself making the best of a bad situation that is really a blessing.  The ex is a total jackass.

Joker and Carissa went to high school together but did not hang in the same circles.  A chance meeting when Carissa has a flat tire sets a path in motion.  And I love the fact that she pursues him at the start.  This is my favorite Chaos book so far.  If you love KA as a author and MC books in general, give this one a one click.
