When I stared the Eagle Elite series never did I imagine how completely sucked in to a mafia series I would become, but then again when the head of the family is Nixon Abananto how can you not be?  Each book draws me in deeper and deeper, but through them all I've always considered myself a loyal member of Team Nixon, so how is it one book, one character can completely take me by surprise?  It's obviously because the author behind the words is a mastermind!  

I truly believe Elicit is the absolute best book thus far in the Eagle Elite series, and I cannot imagine anyone reading this story and being disappointed in it's main character Tex!  He is everything I loved about Nixon; confident, sexy, powerful, protective and dominant yet he has this unique sense of humor and darkness, which really sets him apart from any of the other characters.  Tex, a master at hiding his emotions from everyone except Mo, has always lived in the shadows, those not only those of his father the Cappo but also of Nixon.  So what happens when it's time for him to fulfill his destiny at the cost of the only thing worth living for, the only thing which brings him peace and genuine happiness?  I'll tell you what happens, you get a brilliant, enthralling, heartbreaking, epic story, which will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very last page.

Full of twists, surprises, secrets and schemes once you start this book you will not be able to put it down.  There were times I even found myself wondering which characters to even believe much less trust.  I really enjoyed the experience of being inside Tex's head, witnessing the struggle behind every decision, every move.  I loved how RVD weaved memories of the past into the present, solidifying Tex was no longer a young boy with simple decisions and Mo wasn't just the girl he always loved to rescue, to make smile.  Things now are now much more complicated where lovers and brothers become enemies simply because they're from the wrong family, but then again what is family?  Is it the ones you share blood and a last name with or is the "brothers" you grew up with, the family you claim for yourself.  Things in all of these character's lives are so much more complicated now and that it's become even harder to do break away from the old ways and do things differently, especially when your'e playing the ultimate game of chess where one wrong move leads to death.

Elicit, isn't just a love story.  Yes, there is love and passion and yes it definitely gets pretty steamy, but this story takes you even deeper into the lives and emotions of mafia gang!  Rachel takes us places I never saw coming and leaves us with doors opening I never imagined existed!  Fans of this series will not be disappointed in Elicit, and those who haven't already picked up and read Elite, the first book, what are you waiting for because if you haven't read this series your missing out!

"Eight minutes where I'd rather time didn't exist." I whispered watching pain roll across his face in a wave. "Kiss me again."

With a soft exhale, he brushed his lips across mine, little feathery strokes that tempted me with promises of something more. He used his tongue to trace the outline of my lips before sliding inside, past my teeth, tasting every inch of me, giving me every inch he could of himself. Living in the moment, both of us knowing that it would soon be over.

"Seven." I whispered against his mouth.

"Go to school," he urged for a second time. "Make mistakes, Mo. Get in trouble, let Nixon find you sneaking wine into your backpack. Get sent to the Dean's office, make mistakes," he said again then licked his lips. "Let someone pick up the pieces of your broken heart, let someone fix what I destroyed."

"What if I want to drop out and hermit myself in my room?" I refused to look at him.

"That's not living, Mo." Tex cupped my face. "I have five minutes left with you, do you want me to use it to kiss you or lecture you on why I'm right?"

I grinned as a tear slid down my cheek. "Both."

His smile matched mine. "I forget how much you like being scolded."

"Only if the one scolding has a firm hand."

"Every last inch of me is firm and you know it." Tex tugged me into his lap. "School will distract you, it will give you a better future then guns and war, it will take your focus from tragedy to the future. Please, for me, Mo, please try to do normal."

"Normal." I shook my head. "Not sure I know what that word is."

"Normal," Tex repeated. "Making love to someone under a tree not because you have to say goodbye, but because it's the best way you can think to say hello."

My lower lip quivered.

"Normal." His voice was hoarse. "Marrying the love of your life not because her brother shoots you at point blank range--but because not marrying her would be a fate worse than death."

He was silent then added, "Three minutes."

I clenched his shirt with my hands and fought the urge to sob against his chest.

"Normal." Tex's voice was barely audible. "Going from country to country, traveling all over the world, not because you have a hit on you, but because you want to see the girl you love smile in every country God ever created."

I knew the time was ticking by, it seemed the less time we had the faster it went, I guess that's life.

I was looking at two more minutes, maybe less, with my lover, my friend, and all I could do was clench his shirt in my hands and twist, somehow willing him to stay on the ground rather than get up and walk towards certain death.

"Normal." Tex moved to his feet, helping me up. "Giving the woman you love two hours of your time, because you can't imagine spending your minutes, those precious seconds, any other way."

Tex kissed my mouth hard, nearly bruising my lips before stepping back and kissing my nose.

"Time's up," he said gruffly.

"We're no longer friends." I said it as a statement, not even a question.

"For two hours I was your lover, your friend, your everything." Tex looked away. "For the rest of eternity--I'm now your enemy."

Ben hasn't really ever had the opportunity to tell his story.  We've only really heard things from Dahlia's perspective, and even from the very first book I knew she and Ben weren't meant to be together, but with Ben in the picture Dahlia would probably never allow herself the opportunity to open herself up to the possibility of a relationship with River.  So I guess what I am saying is I think my feelings for not liking him stem more from him being a road block to River and Dahlia's HEA than his cheating.  I am not condoning the cheating, I'm just pointing out I did't really like him even before I learned of his secret tryst.  I also never really felt he was sincere in his attempt to reconcile with Dahlia, his actions always seemed abrasive and selfish.

I think the most important thing this novella accomplished was giving us a great look into the back story of Ben.  It helped me understand him better as a person.  He really did love Dahlia and sacrificing his "life" and their relationship is not the only time he put Dahlia first.  She is all he ever knew love to be, from friends to lovers they were always together.  So, when he first crosses paths with Belle the chemistry between them wasn't something he was seeking, but rather something he knew could be dangerous and tried very hard to avoid.  Like when Dahlia first meets River and you just know these two are destined it's the same with Ben and Belle.

While Blurred sets the story up nicely for Frayed, I am still not convinced Ben is entirely ready to appreciate a love like he could find in a relationship with Belle.  His return from the dead, loss of Dahlia and death of his mother has left him in a very bad place.  Even on his road to self-destruction and rock bottom I still found him to be selfish and hard to like.  He and Belle have so much potential but he has so much more growing to accomplish.  But, I love Kim Karr's writing and I cannot wait to see how she makes me fall in love with Ben and eventually pull for him and Belle to get a HEA of their own, because yes, I do know it's going to happen...she is that great of a writer!

 Please, I thought over and over again. Please. Please. Please. On shaky legs, I crossed the long room, and even thoughDaemon hadn’t seemed to even acknowledge my existence, I walked right up to him, my hands trembling as I placed them on his chest. “Daemon?” I whispered, voice thick. I stared at him, something deep in my chest cracking. “Daemon?” He said nothing as he let go, one finger at a time, it seemed, and his hands slid off my arms. He stepped back, returning his attention to the man behind the desk. “So . . . awkward,” murmured the redhead, smirking. I was rooted to the spot in which I stood, the sting of rejection burning through my skin, shredding my insides like I was nothing more than papier-mâché. “I think someone was expecting more of a reunion,” the Luxen male behind the desk said, his voice ringing with amusement. “What do you think, Daemon?” One shoulder rose in a negligent shrug. “I don’t think anything.” My mouth opened, but there were no words. His voice, his tone, wasn’t like his sister’s, but like it had been when we first met. He used to speak to me with barely leashed annoyance, where a thin veil of tolerance dripped from every word.The rift in my chest deepened.
For the hundredth time since the Luxen arrived, SergeantDasher’s warning came back to me. What side would Daemon and his family stand on? A shudder worked its way down my spine. I wrapped my arms around myself, unable to truly process what had just happened. “And you?” the man asked. When no one answered, he tried again. “Katy?” I was forced to look at him, and I wanted to shrink back from his stare. “What?” I was beyond caring that my voice broke on that one word. The man smiled as he walked around the desk. My gaze flickered over to Daemon as he shifted, drawing the attention of the beautiful redhead. “Were you expecting a more personal greeting?” he asked. “Perhaps something more intimate?” I had no idea how to answer. I felt like I’d fallen into the rabbit hole, and warnings were firing off left and right. Something primal inside me recognized that I was surrounded by predators.

Words can't express our excitement over being included in the Atria blog tour for Ugly Love, especially since Colleen Hoover is one of those authors who always leaves us in awe.  Her ability to write a story so original, so unique, so surprising; well let's just say it's always exciting to start one of her books and wonder where the journey will take us.   I am happy to report once again Colleen Hoover has given us another true original book and it's called Ugly Love!  This book is different (how does she keep coming up with new ways to tell stories?), but more importantly it's an all around incredible story. There is no doubt Colleen Hoover's mind works in marvelous ways which will always set her apart from the norm.

Ugly Love is told so completely differently from anything I have ever read before.  A portion of the story is told in the present day perspective of Tate, a young, hardworking girl who has just moved in with her older, protective brother until she can get a place of her own while she completes her degree.   Another piece of the story is told from Miles, 6 years prior.  What sets this book apart is not just the fact Miles' POV is told in the past, but more so the way in which Miles' story is told.  It's as though the time you spend in the past with Miles is spent looking through a window, watching it happen.  Those chapters are more poetic, which completely captures the essence of  innocence, beauty and romance that usually accompany a person's first experience of falling in love.  While a lot of books are told from alternating male/female POV it's typically the same story and time frame.  What made this book journey so interesting for me was finding myself having different, sometimes conflicting feelings and emotions for these characters.  

It's amazing how changing the frame of reference can affect a person's reaction.  Yes, there were so many times Miles' reactions or behavior in a situation should have frustrated me, should have made me dislike him but I simply couldn't, because I knew whatever the reason there must have been a good one, because at one time this man was capable of love, of knowing happiness, of truly living life and not just going through the motions.   Miles is a pilot, just like Tate's brother, Corbin. And he lives across the hall from them. His first meeting with Tate is horrible, to say the least. However, it creates the mystery needed to make the story work.     

I absolutely adored Tate and loved her personality. She is fun, outgoing, confident, strong and independent, but she also has a tender heart, a soft spot for others.  I am grateful she wasn't written as delusional.  This girl knew from day one she was setting herself up for heartbreak, but she still jumped!  For me, connecting with and relating to Tate was easy, and I think it's because of the way in which her POV chapters were written.  The chapters spent in Miles past, while beautifully written, didn't really allow me to connect to him.  Oftentimes with him it was as though I was an outsider watching a video slideshow of someone I didn't know personally.

Colleen Hoover brings the ending full circle and without a doubt it was the icing on the cake, my favorite part.  After wrecking us emotionally she puts us back together in perfect Colleen Hoover fashion.  The ending was perfect, I couldn't have imagined anything better.  When I wasn't even sure a HEA could be possible Colleen made it possible and I ended on such a high note, my only wish would have been more time with both characters in the present!  This is without a doubt a must-read book for anyone, do not hesitate, just one-click!
