Synopsis
All it took was one night to change the rest of my life.
One night that created irrevocable consequences.
But some consequences aren’t all bad.
They can be amazing…beautiful… Precious.
I willingly accepted those consequences and wrote a new plan for my life. But that plan didn’t include Cameron Argent – the sexy-as-sin tattooed playboy who got under my skin the moment I laid eyes on him. I was headed down a dark and dangerous road where he was concerned and in the end, our relationship was inevitable. Despite our dark secrets, our feelings for each other burned brighter than a thousand stars and left us both naked, vulnerable.
But when my past came rolling back into my life like a Summer storm, I wasn’t sure if his love for me was enough.  Was he prepared to deal with the consequences of a past I couldn’t regret or would he walk away with my beating heart in his hands?

A girl walks in, fury written all over her face, and spins around to glare at the guy behind her. Her black hair is tied in a messy bun on top of her head and she’s wearing gray yoga pants with a black tank top. The other students grow silent, engrossed with the scene in the front of the classroom.
“Fuck you, Marcus!” the girl yells. “Don’t call me ever again!”
She turns away from him but he grabs her arm and spins her around. “Baby, please,” he pleads. “Don’t do this. We can work this out. It’s just a misunderstanding.”
“A misunderstanding?” she spits back. “Please, tell me how I can misunderstand catching you and my roommate doing it doggie style in my dorm room! I’d love to see you explain yourself out of this one!”
My eyes grow wide. This looks like an episode out of ‘Jersey Shore’, minus the fake tans.
“I’m sorry, baby,” the guy whines. “It won’t happen again.”
The girl looks at him like he’s completely crazy. “Oh, yes it will. Only this time, you’ll be single to fuck whoever you want, you lying piece of shit!” Her hand lifts and a loud ‘smack’ echoes through the classroom as it makes contact with the guy's cheek. There’s a collective gasp followed by a round of applause and the guy has no choice but to leave, his wounded pride tucked away in is back pocket. The door closes and the girl takes a dramatic bow. She makes her way towards me and falls into the seat next to mine.
“Can you believe that fucker?” she asks rhetorically. “Sticks his dick into someone else’s hoo-ha and thinks I’ll take him back.” Her chest heaves slightly as she tries to reign in her anger. “And you know what the worst part is?” She looks at me but doesn’t wait for me to answer. “He’s got Limp Dick Syndrome!”
The other students, still listening to her outburst, break into another round of hysterics and soon we’re all laughing. The girl sticks out her hand. “I’m Hannah,” she says. “And we’re going to be the best of friends.”
I smile back, liking her immediately. “Hayley.”
The professor walks in and the noise dies down. Since it is our first class, the professor just goes over the syllabus and class doesn’t last the full hour. I walk out and Hannah steps up to my side, threading her arm through mine. “C’mon, Hayley, let’s go grab coffee. We have an hour off before our photojournalism class,” she says.
“How do you know that’s my next class?”
Her eyes roll. “I looked at your schedule,” she pauses. “And now that I know we’ll be best friends, I’m going to buy you a Latte and tell you all my inappropriate secrets, and what turns me on.”
Oh yes, I definitely like this girl.

Have you ever sat and contemplated your life and how every decision you made impacted the events? When you truly stop and look back each of us has things that we regret and wish we could take back and moments that we wouldn't change for all the money in the world.  Precious Consequences is an outstanding story about life and the choices that are made.

Hayley Tanner is a 19 year old single mother that lives in hiding with her grandma. After some flashbacks and history, you understand what has kept her living in the shadows and away from prying eyes.  Her daughter, Arianna, is the reason she lives and breathes.  I love the relationship that Hayley has with Ari. It so perfectly describes a mothers love for their child.  As a mom, I can understand Hayley's motives and desire to protect Her child at all costs, even if it will destroy Hayley emotionally.  I can't explain to you how much I love these characters.  They are so amazingly well written.

Cameron Argent is broken in his own way. He is struggling to live his life in happiness because of the consequences of his actions years earlier.  He puts on a good show for others, but deep down his guilt and remorse for mistakes he's made are eating him away a little bit each day.  When he first meets Hayley there is instant attraction.  While Cam is looking for an easy lay, Hayley has responsibilities that Cam can't even fathom.  Hayley's fear about being judged because of Ari and her desire to protect her are noble, but what will happen when Cameron learns the truth?

I love the intertwining of characters in this book. Although it is told from alternating POV of Hayley and Cam, I think the reader can see multiple stories playing out in the pages; not only the love, turmoil and relationship of Cam and Hayley but also the choices their friends make.  Hannah, Taylor and Noah, Cam and Hayley's friends, all make good and bad choices and as you are reading you can also see the consequences of their actions.  You also see motives behind what others do to people.  While it can never justify their actions, sometimes it's nice to at least understand why people do the things they do.

This was the first book by Tamsyn Bester that I have had the pleasure of reading.  I look forward to reading many more!  She is a fantastic author and knows exactly how to pull you into a story from the Prologue!  I can't wait until the release of her next book, Destined To Fall in January!  I received an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.  I am, however, happy to report that you can purchase this book for only .99!!  That is an amazing buy for this book. I highly recommend that you one click it today!!

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review...

Calling all fans of Jessica Sorensen's Ella and Micha, this book is a MUST read for you.  For those of you who haven't heard of this couple, you really need to check them out, they have made for a wonderful series.

Anyways, on to the review.  I was so nervous when I picked up this book because I feared Ella would make the same mistakes she has in the past, never fully trusting of the people around her, too hard on herself, feeling undeserving, shouldering blame and more importantly running instead of staying and facing reality when things get hard.  And, the truth is I didn't want any more heartache for this couple.  They love one another so much and I really wanted them to get their forever happily ever after.

Well, I'm happy to report that our Ella has grown so much as a character.  She has evolved, while the desire to run, to be depressed and to hold things in is still a struggle, she has learned to let people in, to trust in Micha and their love for one another, to face things head on even when every part of her heart begs her to take the easy way out and run.  The Ella in this book is a fighter and she chooses to fight for her own happiness and her future with Micha.  It certainly wasn't easy, especially when a package with contents from the past with the power to send her in a tailspin arrives, but honestly at the end I felt like a proud mom in regards to how she handled everything.

One of the things I loved about this particular book were the flashbacks into their childhood.  From the first time they talked, to their first kiss, to the first "I love you."  Through all the good times and hard times since they were just children they were there for one another.  The kind of love they share is unique and true.  The know one another better than anyone else and these flashbacks only cement the pure intentions of their love and actions towards one another.  Jessica shows us throughout the story just how deep Micha's love for Ella runs and really vice versa and you cannot help but smile as you're reading this one!

This is a book full of hope, hope that even though life is hard and being in a relationship is scary, love is always there; and with love comes the desire to make the other person happy even if it means sacrificing your own dreams.  So the question remains, how do Ella and Micha come about their HEA and at what cost?

Excerpt

“Let’s make a pact.” Chase put his hand on my shoulder.
“A pact?” I sniffled and turned to him. “What kind of pact?”
“One that’s forever. One that protects people rather than hurts them.”
“How do we do that?” I was suddenly interested. What if I could make all the hurt go away? What if I could save everyone!
“We do this.” Chase pulled out his pocketknife and cut open his hand, then nodded to me to do the same thing. Without pausing I cut open my hand and handed back the knife. “Blood brothers. We’re never gonna hurt each other and we’re gonna save those like your ma, Nixon. Ones who can’t save themselves. We’re going to protect them.”
“How?” I watched as the blood dripped from my open palm.
“Rules.” Chase shrugged. “They keep people safe, right? At least that’s what my mom says.” He smiled. “We make rules and we start our own club. That way, we don’t have to listen to anyone but us.”
I liked it. I chewed on my lower lip. “What do we call ourselves?”
“The chosen?” Chase offered.
“No, that sounds lame. We have to sound… more powerful than that.”
My eyes flickered to the road, and a sign poked into the ground. It said election. “Elect.” I pointed. “Let’s call ourselves The Elect.” It made sense; after all, the president was elected, wasn’t he? We weren’t exactly chosen, but we were making the choice, we were electing ourselves protectors. That’s what we were.
“Who else can join?” Chase asked.
“Tex and Phoenix. They’ll want to.” A weight suddenly felt like it was being lifted off my twelve-year-old shoulders. “Should we shake on it?”
“Yeah.” Chase smashed his hand against mine as our blood mixed. “No going back, Nixon.”
“No.” I shook my head. “No going back.”

I pressed my fingers to my temples and watched, replaying that moment over and over again in my head as the outline of Chase and Tracey flickered in the moonlight. Would he really do this to me? After all the shit we’d been through?
I gauged her reaction, hoping that I would be wrong. Praying to God that Trace would just this once listen to me. Her eyes flickered with interest for a few brief seconds before she looked down at the ground.
“Shit.” I waited in the shadows. A part of me knew this would happen. The part that told me to damn my feelings to hell and ignore all the warning signs that I’d been seeing. But now it seemed like it was too late. I stayed, planted where I was, watching, waiting.
“Chase, you can’t…” Trace shook her head. “You can’t be like this. We can’t do this!”
“We aren’t doing anything,” Chase said in low tones, reaching for Trace’s hand. “Don’t you?” He looked directly at me, although all he saw was a shadow. I knew I was well hidden. “Don’t you feel the same way?”
Trace jerked her hand away from Chase’s. “It doesn’t matter what I feel. It’s not about me, Chase.”
“But it is.” Chase reached for her again. This time her hand grasped his in such an intimate embrace I thought I was going to vomit all over the ground. The outside air was cold as hell as little pieces of ice tried to find their way into my wool coat.
“It isn’t.” Trace sighed. “It never was.”
Chase jerked her toward him. She fell against his chest and looked up into his eyes. “What are you doing?”
Chase sighed. “What I should have done a long time ago.” He grabbed the back of her head and pulled her in for a kiss. Their lips touched.
I had to look away.
The only sound in the night was that of my soft footsteps as I walked away… leaving my heart in broken pieces where I’d last stood. She was lost to me; it wasn’t even the Sicilians that had taken her, but my best friend.
A gunshot rang out loud and clear in the night air. I turned back around just in time to see Trace collapse into Chase’s arms.

Review
4.25 out of 5 stars

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review…

Confession…as soon as Elect arrived on my Kindle I didn't waste any time digging in.  I couldn't wait to escape back into the mysterious mafia world created by the great Rachel Van Dyken!  With the cliffhanger ending of Elite I just had to know what was going to happen.  Would Trace's grandfather live?  Would Trace really fall in love with Chase and betray Nixon?  Would we finally learn who was responsible for the death of Trace's parents?  I was both nervous and excited to start the second installment of the Eagle Elite series, not to mention I really needed my Nixon fix!  Fortunately I can happily report this book did not disappoint, not even a little bit.

As head of the family it's Nixon's responsibility to keep everyone safe and sometimes this means making some gut wrenching difficult decisions.  But where Trace's safety is of concern Nixon never hesitates to do whatever it takes to protect her.  Even when it means pushing her into the arms and love of his best friend and cousin Chase, who he knows is also in love Trace.  Can he trust Chase and even more importantly can he trust in his relationship with Trace?

Circumstances force Trace to lean on Chase in a way she never saw coming.  Nixon is without a doubt her soulmate but she cannot ignore her feelings for Chase either.  Needless to say it makes for a very interesting love triangle.  I really want to give more details but I'm so afraid of ruining the story and therefore I refuse to give away any spoilers.

In the meantime lets talk about Nixon and Chase.  Both are strong, dominate, passionate men who love Trace more than anyone else in their lives.  One in fact is literally willing to die if it means she gets to live.  Nixon has a hold on her soul like no other, but when Trace really opens her eyes she also recognizes she loves Chase as well.  When she is with Chase he brings her a sense of comfort and happiness, he makes her new reality more bearable.  It would be a tough choice for any woman to make.  Rachel Van Dyken has given us two pretty incredible guys to root for, but she can only choose one.

Questions are answered and mysteries are solved.  Since we were introduced to pretty much everyone in Elite this time around we get to dive deeper into each of their stories.  We learn more about the history of The Elect.  Hearing more about the boys' pasts and witnessing their strong bonds of not only friendship but love and loyalty was pretty incredible.  You cannot help but feel connected to all the characters and as a result you are more understanding of their actions.

Elect was a great next installment to the series.  It is very well written and you're going to be easily sucked in.  Not to mention there twists and turns to the story which are going to take you by surprise!  Absolutely do not hesitate to go ahead and one-click this book.  You HAVE to know what's going to happen, plus you get a good sense of closure to one story-line and a peek into the next one.

Q&A With Rachel Van Dyken

Q:  How would you describe your writing style? (fast and furious, slow and steady, etc)
Fast and Furious. I write so fast that I forget to put in commas, periods, etc. I just go straight through and I never do more than one draft. My first edit is usually the firs time I read through the entire book.

Q:  Do you write by hand/computer/ edit a lot?
I write on my computer and I never edit myself. It sounds lazy but if you keep going back and rechecking things you’ll keep changing things and by then your book wont be finished, so I go straight through.

Q:  What is the most rewarding (and difficult) part of writing?
Hitting publish. It’s terrifying and difficult because once it’s out there its out there.

Review
5 out of 5 stars

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review...

Dear Emily is the kind of book you never saw coming.  You know the kind I'm talking about...the ones which are so full of emotion, so thought provoking that even when you turn the last page you cannot get the story or the characters out of your mind.  Dear Emily turned out to be this absolutely beautiful story of two very different women who even though their lives are in two very different places, circumstances force the crossing of their paths, leaving each of them forever impacted.  Trudy Stiles completely blew me away in the best way possible.

As a blogger/reviewer I've read a lot of books, this year alone I've probably read well over 150, and I say all this because in all the books I've read I've honestly never come across a story quite like this one.  It was original and fresh yet heartbreaking and beautiful.  Dear Emily is not your typical virgin girl falls in love with bad boy, she saves him and they live happily ever after all the while giving readers a good dose of smut.  There is love, there is smut, there is a virgin girl and even a broken one, there's a bad boy who needs saving and one who needs to be locked up forever, and there is also a strong good boy looking to save the woman he loves.  It has all the elements of your typical New Adult book genre but these things are not the focus of the overall journey.  They are important elements slowly adding to the story, but the focus of Dear Emily is more about Carly and Tabitha.  About how the events of their pasts are impacting not only the current state of their lives but also their futures.

In life things happen and as a result the path you were travelling down and the dreams you held afar are forever altered.  This is the reality of both Carly and Tabitha's lives and Trudy Stiles tells their stories in an incredibly unique way by alternating POV perspectives and flashbacks of both women.  I found the storytelling to be unique and brilliant.  I loved seeing tidbits of the highs and lows of their lives in both the present and past.  For me, it added a real sense of depth to the story.

I don't want to say too much or give away too many details because I'm afraid if I do it will take away from your reading experience.  However, I'm highly recommending you spend the $2.99 and read this amazing debut novel for yourself.  And while some of you may be hesitant to read book 1 of a new series knowing you will have to wait for the next installment I urge you to go ahead and read Dear Emily because while you are left wanting more you are also left feeling very satisfied with the ending you get.

Blog Hop: Switched, by Cassie Mae

Synopsis
Ever since high school, Kayla has been crazy for gorgeous football player Talon. But before she could muster the courage to tell him, he became a hot item with her beautiful BFF, Reagan. The only person who knows Kayla’s secret is Wesley, Talon’s best bud—and he’s got it bad for Reagan. Now they’re all in college together, hanging out 24/7. For Kayla, seeing the two lovebirds together is absolutely unbearable. So Kayla and Wesley hatch a plot to drive them apart before Talon has a chance to give Reagan the Christmas gift she’s been waiting for.

Soon enough, the once happy couple is fighting. Reagan suddenly can’t get enough of Wesley’s goofy sense of humor, and Talon seems to be paying more attention to Kayla than a guy who’s “only a friend” ever should. But just when everything seems to be falling into place, Kayla and Wesley accidentally spend a night together and discover a hitch in their plan they never considered: that switching partners may not lead to a perfect ending after all.

Review
3.5 out of 5 stars

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review...

Meet Kayla, a college freshman who has secretly been "in love" with Talon since they were children.  A chance encounter dating back to when they were just kids is the fuel behind her crush and after all these years she is convinced they are soul-mates.  The only problem...her best friend/roommate Reagan has been dating him for the past year!

Meet Wesley, also a college freshman, who is secretly "in love" with Reagan; who just so happens to be his best friend Talon's serious girlfriend.  Kayla, Wesley, Reagan and Talon are the closest of friends and do everything together.  The only problem...Kayla and Wesley are miserable as they watch the ones they love in a relationship of their own, never noticing the ones they should be with.  Or should they?

Kayla feels Wesley is the only one who can commiserate with her and vice versa.  Honestly it seems as though Wesley is the only one who can cheer her up when it gets too hard to watch.  They are desperate and lonely together until one day when being a 3rd and 4th wheel becomes too much and they devise a plan for Talon and Reagan to notice them, a plan which will not only allow Talon to be with Kayla and Wesley to be with Reagan but one which will also allow them to continue their friendship.

Switched is a super cute, fun, fast, feel good read.  The entire story is told from Kayla's perspective, with each chapter starting out as a sort of reflective journal entry.  What I enjoyed most was watching Kayla's opinion and feelings toward both Wesley and Talon developing and changing.  As the reader you figure it out long before Kayla, but it doesn't make it any less fun and enjoyable watching her finally recognizing the truth of who she is in love with.

At first Kayla comes across as kind of a self-centered bitch, and at times I was like you have got to be kidding me...how much more selfish can you be!  But then as soon as her thoughts poured out she would recognize how they sounded and I couldn't help but feel bad for her.  I mean how miserable would it be to feel connected to this one person, a person who you think is the answer to everything, but in reality they don't seem to truly notice you.  Add on the fact because your feelings and crush have been going on for so long and are so strong you've never even opened yourself up to the possibility of another person because you don't see the point when you already know who your soul-mate is.

While I really did enjoy this book, and I LOVED the ending, the down-side was I really didn't feel any strong emotional connection to Kayla, and for me this is something I look for to when starting a new book journey.  In addition,  it wasn't one of those books I couldn't put down.  I was interested and I was invested in the story but I didn't feel completely consumed as I have with some of the other book's I've recently been reading.  But enough about my opinions.  The real question is what happens?  Will Kayla find her HEA with Talon and Wesley with Reagan or will their plan backfire?  Find out for yourself and one click Switched now!

When he probed with more questions about what I looked for in query letters, I told him I liked romance novels and I basically looked for potential book boyfriends.
“Book boyfriends?” He chuckled out loud. As I watched, his chest moved to the rhythm of his laugh. “Really?” He took his last bite and chugged his coffee.
“Yes…really.” I had already finished my plate since I was too nervous to talk.
“Is that like for people who can’t get one in real life?” He was totally amused by this notion.
“No…silly,” I giggled. “Readers read books to help them escape from the daily routine of life. Many of these romance books have a swoon-worthy, gorgeous guy with really nice abs and a six pack, who can deliver wild, hot sex.” Just the thought alone made me turn red and I froze when he gave me a heated look. Then, his eyes concentrated on my lips, shifted to my breasts, then back up to my eyes when I said ‘wild, hot sex.’ I just described him and what he could potentially do.
Gravitating toward me, his eyes locked lustfully on mine. His lips were just inches away as they parted to speak and I didn’t know how he got so close to me. “I would like to be your book boyfriend,” he said with the hottest sound that could sing out of his lustrous, lick-able mouth. The puff of his breath on my lips sizzled way down to my sex. He reached out to my face, his thumb sensually sliding, feather light to touch my bottom lip with one long, slow stroke. As I watched his tongue glide over his bottom lip at the same time, I quivered beyond control.
Completely dumbfounded, I sat there staring at him and in my mind, I had already taken off my clothes for him. Blinking because that was all I could do, I wanted to say yes, but my pride and my head knew better and stopped me.
Suddenly, he broke his gaze and it felt like he had just dumped ice water over my head. “Is that what a book boyfriend would say and do?” he chuckled as he picked up our plates and took them to the kitchen.
What just happened? I was almost certain my face was deep red, because I felt it down to my toes.
