Synopsis
Thirty-year-old Daisy DiStefano has two people she holds dear: the grandmother who raised her, and her three-year-old son, Elliott. But when Daisy’s grandmother is killed in a seemingly random act of violence, Daisy must take steps to protect herself and her child.

Despite a thriving career in San Francisco, thirty-six-year-old Brooks McClain has returned home to spend what little time his mother has left before she succumbs to the deadly disease that is ravaging her. The seasoned investigative reporter has taken a position with the local newspaper and been on the job less than twenty-four hours when he’s summoned to cover the death of Pauline Thorpe.

Brooks is all business, but the more time he spends with Daisy DiStefano, the more invested he becomes; there’s something about a single mother, a defenseless child, and an unsolved crime that has stirred Brooks’s protective instincts like nothing ever has before.

And when the unthinkable happens, Brooks will do whatever it takes to clear the name of the woman he’s fallen for and the child he’ll protect at any cost.

Romantic and suspenseful, Every Time I Think of You shows how far two people will go to fight for the ones they love, and the life they’ve always imagined.

Chapter One

Three-year-old Elliott DiStefano hid underneath his mother’s bed when the shouting started. He didn’t understand what the raised voices coming from the living room meant, but instinct told him to hide.
No one ever yelled in his house. Sometimes they used a different tone with him, firmer. “Stop climbing everything, you little monkey,” his mama would say or, “It’s time to pick up your toys and get ready for bed,” Nana would announce. Most of the time he would do what they said, although sometimes they had to ask him twice, especially if what he’d rather do was play a little longer. But they never spoke to him in such a harsh way, and they never told him to shut up like the man in the living room just did to Nana.
Elliott clutched his favorite green army man tightly in his hand. His nana had given him a bath after their early dinner at five, and asked if he was ready to put on his pajamas. “I can do it myself,” he’d told her, and she’d smiled and walked out of the bedroom he shared with Mama, closing the door behind her. She’d promised they could watch a movie and that Elliott could have one of the cookies they’d baked earlier that day for his bedtime snack. But then someone knocked on the door and now there was yelling and no movie and no cookie.
The man’s voice was scary and mean. Nana sounded like she was crying and as Elliott’s fear grew he began to tremble. The yelling got a little louder, followed by a crash and a thud. Then nothing. Was the bad man still there? What if he’d left but planned to come back? Elliott could no longer hear Nana’s voice and he wondered where she went. Did she leave? Did she go with the man? He curled himself into a tight ball and began to cry silent tears.
He had no way of knowing how much time had passed. It was dark under the bed and the crying had tired him out, so he rubbed his stinging eyes and took a little nap. When he woke up he desperately needed to go to the bathroom. His mama and Nana had been so proud of him when he stopped wearing diapers, and he hardly ever had accidents, but he couldn’t risk leaving the safety he’d found under the bed. The minutes ticked by and though he tried his best to hold it, he peed in his pajamas, soaking himself from the waist down. He started to shiver.
It was quiet for a long time and then someone banged on the door and shouted something, but Elliott didn’t know if that was bad or good. He heard voices in the living room, not yelling, just talking, but he remained hidden. Mama would be home soon and she’d know what to do. Elliott decided to wait for her under the bed.
More voices, drawing closer. The door to the bedroom opened. Elliott froze, wondering if it was the bad man coming to get him. He didn’t make a sound as a pair of legs wearing dark blue pants, with a stripe down the side, came into view. If he didn’t say a word or make any noise, maybe the person would leave.
No one would have known he was there if he hadn’t coughed at that very moment. It was a bit dusty underneath the bed, and Elliott already felt a little wheezy, like he might need another dose of his medicine.  The legs bent as someone crouched down to look under the bed and Elliott squeezed his eyes shut, terrified of what he might see.
“It’s okay.” The man said, speaking softly. “I’m a policeman. I’m here to help. Can you come out from under there?” Heart pounding, Elliott didn’t answer. He couldn’t.
More footsteps. More dark blue legs. Elliott stayed put. No one was yelling, but Elliott’s heart was still beating fast, and his body felt like Jell-O. A lady wearing a dark blue uniform lay down on the floor next to the bed. “What’s your name?” she asked. She sounded a little like his mama. Her smile was nice like Mama’s, too. He didn’t think a bad person would smile at him, so he answered her. “Ewiott,” he whispered.
“My name is Officer Ochoa but you can call me Regina, okay?” He nodded. “How old are you, Elliott?” she asked. Using the hand not clutching the army man he held up three fingers.
“Three, huh? That’s a good age. I want you to know that you’re safe and no one will hurt you. Can you come out from under there? Here, take my hand.” She stretched out her hand to him and he hesitated but finally touched her palm with his fingers. She urged him gently toward her. Once he was close enough she reached in and grabbed him by his pajama top, pulling him the rest of the way out.
Elliott blinked and let his eyes adjust to the light. One of the officers noticed his wet pajamas, and his shivering, and they wrapped his Thomas the Tank Engine comforter around him, speaking in low, soothing tones.
“I want Nana and Mama,” he said. They could barely hear him.
“What is your mama’s name?” they asked.
“Daisy,” he said. He knew this was true because it was the name other people called her when they said hello. And it was easy to remember because it was the name of a flower, and he liked flowers.
“Do you know your last name?”
He nodded. He and Mama had practiced saying it. “DiStefano,” Elliott said. Maybe it didn’t come out as clearly as it sounded to him because they repeated it back like a question and he nodded.
The officers exchanged a glance and one of them said, “Got it.” The officer who spoke scribbled something on a pad of paper and left the room.
“We’re going to take you to the police station and we’ll call your mom so she can come get you,” Officer Ochoa said. “Okay?”
He wanted his mama more than anything, so he said okay, and when she bent down and scooped him up, comforter and all, he put his arms around her neck. She hurried down the hallway and just before they got to the door, when he would have tried to look for Nana to make sure she was coming too, Officer Ochoa pulled Elliott’s head down to her chest and all he could see was the dark blue of her uniform.

Review: Tragic Love, by MS Brannon

Synopsis
“From the moment I locked eyes with hers, we've had this undeniable connection that was and will always be wicked. A love that would literally kill me if it didn't survive, but lately, could kill me if it did.” ~Drake Evans.

For Drake and Presley, life has handed them more challenges than any one person should ever face in a lifetime. Together, they've survived Presley’s captivity from her deranged uncle, but now they must learn how to live with the events that surrounded her time spent with him, while keeping the details of her rescue a secret.

For Presley Quinn, living the last two years has been practically unbearable, constantly drowning in nightmares put there by a man responsible for the violent imagines continually playing in her mind. She keeps moving forward, but is barely clinging onto the edge when she’s faced with another obstacle from her past that is so unavoidable, so tragic, it threatens to break her apart—herself.

Drake will do anything to protect Presley from ever feeling pain again. His love is irrefutable. He walks side by side with her, vowing he will never let anyone harm her again. However, when an unexpected event turns Presley against everyone she’s ever loved, Drake is faced with trying to save the only woman he’s ever loved or severing the only lifeline she’s ever had—himself.

Review
4.25 of 5 stars

I have to admit I wasn't really sure how much I was going to like this book, and when I finished the book, I was even more unsure of whether I liked it or not.  It has been several hours since I finished and honestly, it is still consuming my thoughts, so I say that constitutes a great read!  If you haven't read Scarred Love, the first book in the series, see our review here.  The first book was really good too.  But I have to say that if you don't enjoy some intense, happy go lucky reads, these are probably not for you.

The story begins with Drake and Presley a couple of years after the "Robert" situation.  Everyone seems to be doing great.  Drake is working and being his typical responsible self and Presley is excited to see her friend Delilah from Memphis.  As the story unfolds, however, you quickly assess that Presley is drowning in her mental health issues.  The book was really difficult for me to read, especially since I can't imagine having to face demons like she has had in her life.  There were times I was so mad at her character and truthfully her friends as well, that I had to put the book down.

When Drake discovers Presley's secrets and her betrayal to him he is broken.  Deservedly so, but it broke my heart to watch the two of them have to struggle to make it in life.  I mean, they both have been hammered with bad luck there entire life!  Someone give them a break already!  I honestly, don't want to give to much away with the review, so lets just say that this book will break your heart, give you hope and evoke a ton of emotions.

If you are brave and are looking for a fantastic read that is anything but typical, give Tragic Love a try today!  I am so looking forward to beginning Blind Love tonight.  I love Delilah's character and know its going to be one heck of a roller coaster ride.

Review
5 out of 5 stars

If you've read Flat-Out Love, Flat-Out Matt and Relatively Famous, then you know Jessica Park is a pretty talented writer.  This past weekend I was thrilled to see I had been approved to read an advanced copy of Left Drowning, her newest creation, on Netgalley.

For the last few weeks my anticipation for this book has gotten out of control as I kept seeing an endless stream of 5 star reviews and let me tell you, saying I wasn't disappointed in all the hype is an understatement.  This book completely blew my mind wrecking every single one of my emotions along the way.  It absolutely deserves all the attention and praises it's receiving.  Jessica Park your talent clearly  knows no limits or end.  Left Drowning is absolute perfection.

Blythe McGuire, a senior at Matthews College, is struggling through every single aspect of her life.  She is plagued with the loss and grief following her parents death over 4 years earlier and desperately longs to feel anything.

One morning, unable to sleep, she has a chance encounter with Christoper Sheppard, also a senior, who secretly fights his own personal demons.  Immediately it's obivous these two individuals have a connection on a spiritual and not just a physical level.

Through her friendship and relationship with Chris and his siblings Blythe begins to heal, she begins to live life again learning to breathe through the pain.  As Blythe seemingly moves forward with her life Chris finds himself struggling to keep his head above the waters of his own family's traumatic past.

Will Chris allow Blythe to rescue him or will he drown in his own pain?

Be warned...this is probably the most emotionally tense story you may ever read.  There is no mistaking Left Drowning as a fluffy, soft, feel good story.  This book is incredibly real and there is a whole lot of heavy darkness you have to journey through to get to the light.  But honestly, that's what makes it so amazing.

The character development of not only Chris and Blythe but also the secondary characters was outstanding.  I had a special place in my heart for each of them because every single one was crucial to Blythe's healing and to the whole story. They're all going to make an impression on you and you're going to wish you could be a part of the family they've created.  I think its through these characters Jessica Park was able to successfully intertwine her own unique personality and sense of humor into the story, which is an added bonus!

Now let's talk about the chemistry between Chris and Blythe...it's undeniably hot with explosive moments of sexual intimacy.  Jessica Park can seriously write some hot, heart pounding, blood throbbing sex scenes!  That being said, prepare yourself for some extremely graphic writing when it comes to those parts of the book.

Left Drowning is a book everyone should take the time to read.  It's about the reality of sometimes having to go through life in pain, of how some people get dealt a shit hand and don't always know how to navigate through or around their pain on their own.  It's about accepting your life has a purpose even when you cannot see it for yourself.  It's also about the life saving beauty that comes when you open yourself up to others.  It's about friendship, family and love.

Buy this book today it's one you are going to want to read, it was our #2 Book of our top 20 reads of 2013.

Review: My Hunger, by Lisa Renee Jones

Synopsis
An Inside Out Novella in Mark's POV

While Chris and Sara have traveled to Paris to avoid the chaos of press and police after the tragic night we’d shared, I have stayed to face the reality of what has happened. But there is no peace to be found in facing the truth, and no truth to be found in the confessions that have been made and retracted. I am a Master, all about control, and yet right now, facing great tragedy, I feel as if I have none. With my club and my relationships of the past in the spotlight, I find sanctuary in the one place I’ve promised I will never be again, but cannot seem to resist. Her arms.

***Mark and Crystal's story begins in the novella Master Undone.

Review
4.25 out of 5 stars

When I first read Rebecca's Lost Journals I wasn't really sure of my feelings for Mark.  Just like Rebecca I wondered what his true intentions were.  Whether or not he cared for her beyond the Master/Submissive relationship.  Was it possible he loved her but was in denial, or even aware his feelings were love?  Like Rebecca I wondered if he was capable of a real relationship, and if so what would one look like?  Rebecca's Lost Journals left me confused of my feelings towards Mark, but by the end of Master Undone I can say they weren't favorable (other than his love and respect for his parents, especially his mother.  I found their relationship touching, I liked seeing Mark's vulnerability).

Needless to say I went into this novella with mixed feelings, especially knowing it would be told completely from Mark's perspective.  Fortunately, I can say without a doubt I really enjoyed My Hunger.  Don't get me wrong, Mark still very much remains a mystery but I came away from the experience feeling as though I possibly understood him a bit better.  Well, maybe understanding is the wrong word (even being inside his head I still felt he was somewhat closed off), but I did very much enjoy his perspective.

My Hunger provided the perfect opportunity to see just how deep his feelings for Rebecca truly ran.  To see first hand how their relationship and subsequent ending to her disappearance completely wrecked not only his life but the control he craves, the control he depends on to get him from one day to the next.  My Hunger provided a valuable experience, it allowed a small peek into the mystery that is Mark Compton.  In allowing readers to watch as Mark reminiscences through his time with Rebecca, to see him finally admit his feelings, to see this vulnerability first hand makes him a more lovable character.  It was like I finally was able to see for myself the man Rebecca feel in love with.

I was left craving more of his story, I wasn't ready for my time with him to be over.  To me, Mark has always been such a mystery and I feel like My Hunger was just the tip of the iceberg of discovery as to who Mark Compton really is.  Rebecca changed Mark, there's no doubt she was a good influence, but I think Crystal is proving to be an even better one.  Mark needs someone to challenge him, to help him loosen up on his need for control.  Mark's feelings for Rebecca cracked open emotions, emotions he tried to keep from having, but I think Crystal is going to push open the floodgates and I cannot wait to see the unraveling and rebuilding.  I wonder at the end what Mark's going to be like?  My Hunger left me hungry for more time with Mark, I cannot wait to dive deeper into this complicated, mystery of a man!

I was provided a copy from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Review
3.5 out of 5 stars

Fantasized By You was an easy read and a fun addition to Steph Nuss' Love In the City series.  While this book can be read as a stand-alone I enjoyed getting to see more Maverick and Harper after having first met them in Wanted By You.  While one might consider a top fashion designer and a gym owner who hates the fashion industry with a passion and subsequently anyone associated with it an unlikely couple Harper and Maverick have no problems proving them wrong!

One might think Harper Jennings has it all.  A celebrity in her own right due to her coveted designs who lives in NYC and travels all over the world, some may think she has the perfect life but Harper a recovering bulimic wants nothing more than to work a little less and find happiness in her personal life.  To one day have a husband who loves and cherishes her and little ones who depend on her as their mother.  But, she's nearing thirty and she's afraid she won't find a HEA in her personal life.

Maverick Jones wasn't looking to fall in love, especially not with a fashion designer.  After all it's her industry he blames for the death of one his close friends due to anorexia.  He's held a grudge ever since, no longer wanting to feel helpless he finally succeeds in his mission to open a health and wellness clinic at his gym for people struggling with all sorts of vices, especially eating disorders.  How's someone whose sole profession aids in leading women down the path of destruction in the form of eating disorders going to be able to help anyone.  Maverick quickly learns you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover and he soon realizes there's much more than first impressions when it comes to Harper Jennings.

I really liked Maverick, other than his initial quick rash judgement and reaction towards Harper, he was all around a great guy, perfect really for Harper.  He was able to allow her the opportunity to be herself, with no shame.  The way he showed her respect and gave honesty allowed her the chance to become confident in herself in regards to their relationship.  I loved how what they had from day one was built on honesty and trust.  He could care less about her celebrity status, he fell in love with the person behind the stage name.  A person who quickly changed his life, giving it more meaning.  He was so sweet and protective of her and I loved how he didn't jump to conclusions or let others sway his mind.  He put faith in her, gave her his trust and always had her best interest at heart.  Even when he was jealous he put her feelings first.  He was a true class act.  I can see why Harper fell for him so quickly.

Harper was a pretty awesome female character.  I loved how strong she grew to be after rehab, how she wouldn't settle for less than exactly what she wanted in her personal life.  I appreciated how she valued her time with Maverick and also how passionate she was to helping other girls and women recover from the demons which lead them to anorexia and bulimia.

It was a very cute predictable story, but that's okay with me.  I don't mind predictable, in fact I often find comfort in those kind of stories, but if I could have wished for something more with this book it would have been more depth.  I felt as though my connections with both characters remained somewhat on the surface.  It's as though the words said, they're falling in love, but I didn't really feel myself connecting emotionally.  I don't know if it is because I felt as though their relationship and the story was rushed, or if I just needed more of a backstory, more of a build up of them falling in love.  One of the things I love most about the story is watching the characters individually fight the brewing chemistry, each encounter leading them closer and closer to the inevitable and then boom it happens!  But in this story Maverick and Harper get together and fall in love so quickly that I don't think it gave me enough time to find myself on pins and needles waiting for the moment for the two to push past their reservations and no longer deny the chemistry.  If that even makes sense!

It's a fun installment to this series and I will certainly be looking out for the next book, which I am hoping is Fletcher's story.  I'm already super intrigued as to how things are going to transpire for him!

Pretty soon the aspiring astronomer is on the verge of revealing her most difficult, heartbreaking secret. All the while, Brax must wrestle with the irrevocable dare, and Olivia struggles against all logic as she does the one thing only a stupid girl would do: fall in love.

Excerpt
Butterflies slammed against my stomach the whole walk down, and it irritated me. It wasn’t just anxiousness about seeing Brax. It was just the idea of going out with a guy. Any guy. And the closer I got to the parking lot, the more nervous I became. The more I wanted to turn around, run and hide. No matter if it was just a friendly dinner, that I was now a freshman in college and not a dumb high school teenager. Why couldn’t I just be calm, cool, collected? I willed those qualities to fall on me, and fast. To infuse in my DNA and make me full of confidence. After a few deep breaths, I had it together. I crossed the common room to the doorway, and pushed it open. And those newly summoned qualities fled the moment I laid eyes on him.
Braxton Jenkins straddled his motorcycle just in front of the walkway. His helmet was off, shades on. Faded jeans, the bottoms cuffed. Black boots. White tee shirt. Black leather jacket. I couldn’t see his eyes, but I knew the moment he saw me. A wide, white smile split his face in two.
The butterflies returned, full force and rabid, with teeth gnashing.
Holy God. I couldn’t do this.
Beaumont! Breathe, girl! Nutcracker! Nutcracker!
The entire silly conversation with Tessa from the night before poured into my brain and instantly calmed me. Just thinking the safe word made me smile. I couldn’t help it. It was just so damn funny. Anyway, it eased my nerves. I walked up to Brax, calm and cool. Friends. Nothing more.
“Hey,” I said. “So you won. How’d the pitching go?”
Whatever expression his eyes held was hidden behind those shades. “Bitchin’ as always. We spanked ‘em good. Nice blouse there, Gracie.”
I smiled, and his face launched into another heart-stopping grin. I inclined my head toward my truck. “Thanks. Let me grab my glasses and jacket.”
Brax said nothing, and I felt his eyes score a jagged blazing hole into my back as I walked toward my truck. It unnerved me a little, but I pushed it aside. I opened the door, and leaned in across the seat to grab my faded denim jacket and shades. Jamming the key in and locking it, I headed back toward Brax and his bike. His eyes were still hidden, but I knew his gaze followed me. I shrugged into my jacket, which, at this time of evening in August I highly doubted I’d freeze my ass off without. “Ready,” I said. I slipped my bag cross-ways over my head and shoulder, and plopped my keys in.
“Come here, Gracie,” Brax said.
My heart slammed. I stepped closer.

Brax reached behind him and retrieved a helmet. He slipped it over my head and snugged it down tightly, tucking my braid inside. I was glad he still wore his shades as his face drew closer and secured the strap under my chin. Those eyes, so close, would’ve made me squirm in discomfort. I stared at myself in their reflection, and at his fingers nimbly moving with the black nylon strap. I noticed a few scars I hadn’t seen before, small nicks that had turned silvery white with age. Definitely a roughened face, yet I had a hard time looking away. He smelled good; recently showered, light cologne. I drew a deep breath. Then another. It barely worked to settle me. My lungs just kept filling up with … him. Unavoidably, my eyes dropped to that mouth. Another breath …

Review: If I Were You, by Lisa Renee Jones

Synopsis
How it all started…

One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airport to elope with a man she barely knew, and she needed me to clear out the unit before the lease expired.

Soon, I was standing inside a small room that held the intimate details of another woman’s life, feeling uncomfortable, as if I was invading her privacy. Why had she let these items so neatly packed, possessions that she clearly cared about deeply, be lost at an auction? Driven to find out by some unnamed force, I began to dig, to discover this woman’s life, and yes, read her journals—-dark, erotic journals that I had no business reading. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. I read on obsessively, living out fantasies through her words that I’d never dare experience on my own, compelled by the three men in her life, none of whom had names. I read onward until the last terrifying dark entry left me certain that something had happened to this woman. I had to find her and be sure she was okay.

Before long, I was taking her job for the summer at the art gallery, living her life, and she was nowhere to be found. I was becoming someone I didn’t know. I was becoming her.

The dark, passion it becomes…

Now, I am working at a prestigious gallery, where I have always dreamed of being, and I’ve been delivered to the doorstep of several men, allof which I envision as one I’ve read about in the journal. But there is one man that will call to me, that will awaken me in ways I never believed possible. That man is the ruggedly sexy artist, Chris Merit, who wants to paint me. He is rich and famous, and dark in ways I shouldn’t find intriguing, but I do. I so do. I don’t understand why his dark side appeals to me, but the attraction between us is rich with velvety promises of satisfaction. Chris is dark, and so are his desires, but I cannot turn away. He is damaged beneath his confident good looks and need for control, and in some way, I feel he needs me. I need him.

All I know for certain is that he knows me like I don’t even know me, and he says I know him. Still, I keep asking myself — do I know him? Did he know her, the journal writer, and where is she? And why doesn’t it seem to matter anymore? There is just him and me, and the burn for more.

4.5 out of 5 stars

A couple of weeks ago I read and reviewed Rebecca's Lost Journals.  When I started that book I had no idea it was bonus material put together for the Inside Out Series, nor did I have any idea how quickly I would find myself sucked into this series!  And yes, I did read the included bonus story Master Undone at the end of the Lost Journals, so going into If I Were You I did kind of have an idea as to the direction the story would go.  However, even though some might consider that knowledge a major plot spoiler I can say without a doubt it did not take away from my enjoyment or excitement when reading If I Were You.  I loved every minute and if anything I walked away even more captivated than before!  No joke, as soon as I finished the last page I immediately one-clicked Being Me, it was such a cliff-hanger I couldn't go to bed without knowing what was going to happen next.  Talk about being engrossed!

Sara is a school teacher on break for the summer when she finds herself in possession of a storage until filled with fine art, furniture, and a set of personal journals with entries Sara cannot seem to stop reading.  The more she reads, the more she feels as though something isn't right.  Not able to shake the feeling Rebecca's things should be returned to their owner she makes it her mission to track down Rebecca, which leads her to a fundraiser at Allure.  When Sara cannot find anyone who knows the details of Rebecca's "vacation" she becomes even more suspicious.  A job offer from the dangerous, good looking, and powerful Mark Compton, who Sara suspects may be the "Master" from Rebecca's journal, has her saying yes and it's the first step on what's about to be a confusing, dangerous and life changing journey.

Honestly I liked Sara from her first introduction.  She is just so sweet, thoughtful and definitely protective of those she loves.  She's a hard worker and I loved watching her passion for art come to life.  I was also surprised there was more to her story than I first thought.  Actually I was shocked to find she had some very juicy secrets in her own past.  I'm telling you, Lisa Renee Jones holds nothing back and this sense of mystery, suspense and romance made were the perfect combination in making this story so addictive.

Now, let's talk about Chris...he's a brilliant artist, filthy rich, drop dead gorgeous and he's got that whole tortured soul thing going on.  He's also a very private person, one who doesn't flaunt around his wealth or power, and his feelings for Sara shake him to his core.  This element alone is a story in and of it's self.  You will be dying to know what secrets he's holding onto and why he's so afraid he will scare Sara away.  Since the story is all told from Sara's POV, you only know Chris through Sara's eyes and his actions, which are without a doubt a dominate man who likes control, but who is also falling head over heels in love.  I absolutely loved watching these two dance around their feeling and attractions with one another.  I love how he takes care of Sara, how protective yet supportive he always seems to be.

I don't know how to fully put it into words, but the love story between Chris and Sara alone would make a great book, but then add into it Sara's missing friend Ella, her mission to find Rebecca, her struggle to deal with Mark, and Chris' secrets and you find yourself with a bestseller.  I totally get why this series is being turned into a TV show.  I for one cannot wait to see it come to life, hopefully it will be every bit as good as the books themselves.  Take my word for it and loose yourself in this series!

I received an ARC of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I have to be honest.  I didn't even read the synopsis or look at the cover before diving into Scarred Love.  I was a little shocked by the prologue because I am more of a happy go lucky kind of girl.  This book is pretty dark and intense.  You see from the prologue that Darcie Claiborne has been in hell for most of her life and is being tortured by her stepfather.  I'm not gonna lie, some of this book is difficult to read, especially if you can't handle dark scenes that feature some sadistic asshole.

All that being said, I really did enjoy this book.  Once Darcie is rescued from her horrible life, she really blossoms and turns into a fierce woman.  She doesn't take crap from anyone and I am happy to report that she doesn't play the victim and blame everyone else for the shit life she was dealt.  She is a fighter and doesn't let others push her around.  I lover her personality and her character.

Reggie Evans will never forget the night he rescued Darcie Claiborne from the terror she was living in just 3 blocks down the street.  Darcie has always considered Reggie to be her knight in shining armor and he would do anything to keep her safe.  Even if he thinks he needs to protect her from him.  He is almost 10 years her senior, he shouldn't have those thoughts about Darcie, but the heart wants what the heart wants.

A lot of this book takes place at school, which I love.  I always love some teenage drama!.  The secondary characters are great in this story as well.  I adore Jake, Jeremy, Drake and Presley.  The book definately would not have been the same without their wit and personalities.

Overall, this is a great read.  If you want a book that has raw emotion, plenty of angst and drama but with some spots of happiness mixed in, you should give it a try.  Now I am on to read book 2 in the Sulpher Heights series, Tragic Love.
