Release Day: Elude by Rachel Van Dyken

The sixth book in the internationally bestselling Eagle Elite Series. *Interconnected Stand Alone*

Twenty-Four hours before we were to be married--I offered to shoot her.
Ten hours before our wedding--I made a mockery of her dying wish.
Five hours before we were going to say our vows--I promised I'd never love her.
One hour before I said I do--I vowed I'd never shed a tear over her death.
But the minute we were pronounced man and wife--I knew.
I'd only use my gun to protect her.
I'd give my life for hers.
I'd cry.
And I would, most definitely, lose my heart, to a dying girl---a girl who by all accounts should have never been mine in the first place.
I always believed the mafia would be my end game--where I'd lose my heart, while it claimed my soul. I could have never imagined. It would be my redemption.
Or the beginning of something beautiful.
The beginning of her.
The end of us.

Review
4.5 out of 5 stars

I have to say Elude absolutely took me by surprise, I was definitely not prepared for such a beautiful, emotional story.  While I've been a fan of the Eagle Elite series since book #1, my feelings toward Sergio have mostly been indifferent.  Yet, I love this series so much that not reading a book devoted completely to his character wasn't even an option.

Right from the start you realize Sergio is a very broken man, a shell of a guy, but someone who has the potential for so much more in his life.  He has a family who despite all the trouble he brought down upon them is still willing to lay down their lives for him.  When his hand is forced to not only protect but marry a dying girl, someone whom he would rather kill now as opposed to watching them suffer, it's the beginning of the end.  Rachel Van Dyken uses Andi, her sickness and their forced marriage, to fully develop Sergio's character.  And let me just go on record in saying you are going to LOVE this man to his core.  He will frustrate you and there will be moments you will want to kill him yourself for being such a cynical human but then he will do something so redeeming, so selfless that your heart will welcome him a little more with each chapter you read.

So who is Sergio's dying bride?  Her name is Andi and she has to be one of the most inspirational characters in this entire series.  I simply loved her outgoing personality, sense of humor and positive outlook on rather gray situations.  I couldn't help but smile as her character came alive on the pages of this book, connecting with Andi's character felt easy, natural even.  Challenging Sergio at every turn she is a forced to be reckoned with.  A force who will give Sergio just the motivation he needs to awaken from the slumber he has been living his life in.

Rachel Van Dyken has done it again, she has provided us with another addictive installment in one of my favorite guilty pleasure series!  In Elude she has given us readers a beautiful, gut-wrenching yet inspiring story full of surprising plot twists.  I thought I knew how this story would end, I was shocked when things didn't transpire exactly as I thought they would, yet the ending left me peaceful, hopeful and more than intrigued for the next installment.  Yes, it's safe to say I am looking forward to where this series will take us next.
