Blog Tour and Review: The Millionaire Affair, by Jessica Lemmon

Millionaire ad executive Landon Downey has a policy: no romantic relationships allowed. So when he's saddled with his six-year-old nephew for a week, he doesn't think twice about asking a female friend to act as live-in nanny. What he doesn't expect is the palpable attraction to the woman he hasn't seen in sixteen years. And not only does she like him back, she suggests they work their way down a list of extracurricular activities in the bedroom. How can he resist? Kimber Reynolds knows what she's doing. Sort of. Tired of every failed attempt to turn her past relationships into her own happily-ever-afters, she's determined to prove once and for all that she can love em and leave  em with the best of them. All she has to do is keep her heart out of the agreement she's made with the man she's crushed on for a decade and a half. No problem. Their string-free arrangement turns downright stringy when Landon starts to feel more for the redhead than good old fashioned lust, and Kimber has a scare involving a plastic stick and one-or-more blue lines. With the pressure mounting and their hearts involved, will these two be able to keep their original promise and walk away from one another?

3.75 of 5 stars

I first read Hard to Handle by Jessica Lemmon a couple of months ago. I really fell in love with Aiden and Sadie and when I got the blog tour invite for The Millionaire Affair, I knew I had to sign up.

The story begins with Landon in his college days and a huge pregnancy dilemma with his college girlfriend. I was drawn into the story by the prologue itself.

Landon is now a very successful ad executive in his 30's and is having to babysit his nephew, Lyon for his brother. The fact is that Landon is so intent on work he needs help with Lyon. Enter Kimber.

Kimber is a fiercely independent owner of a vintage clothing store, but also the best friend of Angel, Landon's sister. Oh and the best part? She is a dreamer that acts before she thinks most of the time and is lots of fun! Did I mention she has been I love with Landon since she was 16!?!

When Angel calls her begging for her to be a live in nanny to Lyon for a week, she gives in because she really needs the money. What will happen when she is under the same roof with Landon for an extended period of time? Can she put her feelings aside? Or will she crack the tin man and bring him to his knees?

I really enjoyed this story. While there is not a ton of drama and it's an easy read, I enjoy that. It's nice to pick up a books with limited angst and know that its going to be a read that will leave you with lots of warm fuzzies inside. I really enjoy not having to work so hard for happiness all the time! I especially love Landon's character and his feelings he struggles to accept. He really is a fun guy! And Kimber is super sweet and endearing as well. Their chemistry is so amazing to watch unfold. If you're looking for a feel good love story, one click The Millionaire Affair today!

About Author Jessica Lemmon
Jessica Lemmon has always been a dreamer. At some point, she decided head-in-the-clouds thinking was childish, went out, and got herself a job . . . and then she got another one because that one was lousy. And when that one stopped being fulfilling, she went out and got another . . . and another. Soon it became apparent she'd only be truly happy doing what she loved. And since "eating potato chips" isn't a viable career, she opted to become a writer. With fire in her heart, she dusted off a book she'd started years prior, finished it, and submitted it. It may have been the worst book ever, but it didn't stop her from writing another one. Now she has several books finished, several more started, and even more marinating in her brain (which currently resides in the clouds, thankyouverymuch), and she couldn't be happier. She firmly believes God gifts us with talents for a purpose, and with His help, you can create the life you want. (While eating potato chips.)

The Only One (End of Days, #3)

teaser 4

Someone pressed himself against Michaela’s back, his hands twining around her stomach. She felt his lips on her neck, his breath in her ear. He said something, but Michaela couldn’t hear. Clark cocked an eyebrow at her and moved away slightly to dance with a petite girl in a fox costume. Michaela twisted in the man’s arms so that they were face to face. He was tall and lanky and definitely human. The pupils of his eyes were huge, dilated far beyond normal, and Michaela smelled the musky hint of drugs seeping from his mouth. His hands roamed over her body, groping her ass. There was no room to get away; the bodies in the middle of the floor were pressed so close together. For a moment, panic flooded through Michaela’s veins. Sure she could knock this guy out with one hit, but she didn’t want to bring attention to herself. She looked around, realizing that everyone was experiencing the same sort of free will she was. She had no clue how the human girls dealt with this sort of invasion. In her distraction, she didn’t realize the man in front of her was about to kiss her until the second before his lips smashed into hers. Immediately, his tongue pressed into her mouth, forcing her lips to part. His tangy salvia pooled at the back of her throat and gagged her. His hand slid up her side to fist around her breast. In that appalling moment, Michaela realized two things. The first being that Gabriel, who was very new to the whole sex thing, was very, very good at the sex thing. And the second being…Gabriel. He stood in all his tall, dark glory behind the man sucking on Michaela’s tongue. Lifting his hand as if he was going to tap on the man’s shoulder and ask to cut in, Gabriel pressed a finger onto on the man’s shoulder, making him instantly sag to the floor. Gabriel pressed harder into the pressure point on the guy’s neck until he was nearly on the floor and completely disengaged from Michaela. It was quiet and efficient. Gabriel righted the man and set him aside before he made too much of a scene. In the mass of pulsing bodies and underneath the flashing storm of rainbow lights, it was unnoticeable. The man moved away, slightly stunned and confused, but without a backwards glance. Michaela shrugged sheepishly at Gabriel’s blank stare. Only because she was looking at his mouth was she able to read his lips as he spoke. “Don’t kiss anyone else.”

Review: Come To Me Softly, by A.L. Jackson

From the New York Times bestselling author of Come to Me Quietly comes a scorching new adult romance in the Closer to You series.

A second chance at life…
A second chance at love…

Jared Holt never thought he deserved either—until he found both in the arms of Aly Moore. Aly has loved Jared for as long as she can remember, and she’s more than ready for the future they’re making together. But Jared can’t help remembering his own family. And he’ll never forgive himself for what happened to them. How can he allow himself the very happiness he once destroyed?

To live a life worthy of Aly, Jared knows he has to stop running and finally put his past to rest. But when he decides to face his demons head on, he encounters more than he bargained for: a dangerous mix of jealousy, lies, and dishonest intentions. When those intentions threaten Aly, Jared loses all control, giving into the rage that earned him his bad boy reputation years before. And he’ll fight to protect her no matter what it costs…even if he destroys himself in the process.

5 out of 5 stars

Were you aware A.L. Jackson was a master storyteller, you know the kind who when telling a story it completely takes over your life?  It's not often you find an author who first wrecks you then slowly pieces your heart back together with every single one of their books.  A.L. Jackson does this for me and I eagerly anticipate it every single time!  I first fell in love with Jared Holt and Aleena “Aly” Moore in Come to Me Quietly.  In my opinion that book was nothing short of amazing, needless to say you can just imagine my excitement when Come To Me Softly appeared on the Kindle for review!

This second book picks up immediately where we last left Jared and Aly at the end of Come To Me Quietly.  As you recall, Jared finally made his way back to Aly after several months of running from the inevitable and drowning his sorrows in things which would never fill the void her absences created when he ran.  Aly's forgiven, taken him back and oh yeah, she dropped the shocking news of her pregnancy!  But where do they go from here?  Aly doesn't want to raise the baby alone and she knows her heart will never belong to anyone other than Jared.  Jared on the other hand is done fighting against his feelings for Aly, he may not believe he deserves happiness but he's resigned to the fact he cannot nor does he ever want to be apart from her again.  His simply bury the demons, and give Aly and his unborn child everything they deserve.  The question we're left wondering is how long before everything blows up, before Jared's demons eventually resurface and completely destroy everything he's built.  Better yet, what's going to be left of Aly, their baby and their relationship?

It was hard not knowing if Jared would ever really succeed in burying his demons, it's a fight he faces not only every day but also every time he closes his eyes, and its nothing short of heartbreaking.  As I read I couldn't help but believe he wanted to be happy, he truly loves Aly and wants nothing more than to build a life together, but struggles with the guilt over his mothers’ death.  A.L. Jackson paints such a vivid picture of his torment and inner turmoil, it just breaks your heart knowing how many years he's lived through it all. I think it all boils down to one of two things, he either doesn't want to face the demons brought on by the accident and his mother's death or he is just too scared to actually face them and become free of their haunting.  I could feel myself with every page willing him to have the courage to attack the darkness head on because I knew I couldn't bear to watch it ruin all the good he finally has.  I respect Jared's character so much because even though he was fighting what felt like a loosing battle with himself I never for once doubted his feelings of love for both Aly and his unborn child.  He always did the best to put the two of them first, to seem better, to keep the darkness at bay.  I loved watching him treasure Aly, she was the light to his darkness.

Speaking of Aly, she too is such a great character.  I found her to be loving and kind, and I also never doubted her love and devotion to Jared.  I respected her most in the moments when she put Jared and their family first, even when the price was quite possibly Jared himself.  Talk about an act of true love!  She is so in tune with him and his emotions, I found it mesmerizing watching her approach towards him vary in order to soothe and comfort when he always needed it most.  Her love for Jared is not only fierce but also protective. We all know Jared's protectiveness of Aly could easily rip anyone apart, but before Come To Me Softly, I don't think anyone of us really understood her protectiveness of him would do the same.  There isn't anyone who is allowed to messes with his emotional state without eventually answering to her.  These two are without a doubt made for one another in every way possible.

Come To Me Softly is a heartbreakingly, beautiful story of love, redemption, forgiveness and family that you won’t soon forget.  One click this book today and fall even more in love with Jared and Aly, my time with them was well spent and their story is without a doubt cemented into my list of favorites.

I had just finished my last class for the day and arrived home. I opened the door and went to the kitchen where Cooper was rummaging through the fridge for a snack. I hadn’t thought he even noticed me until I heard him ask, “Hey, Josh is having a party tonight. Do you want go?”
I placed my school bag on the counter and answered, “Sure, sounds good, but I promised Jen I’d help her study. You go on ahead, and we will be over later.”
He put the makings of a sandwich on the counter and pulled me in for a kiss. “How was your day, babe? I missed you.”
I kissed him back, pulling him into a hug. He kissed the top of my head as I answered, “It was long, but my classes were pretty interesting. How was yours?”
He released me and began making his sandwich, “Good. I really like it there. The CEO had a talk with me today. He wants to create a position for me when I graduate. We even talked salary. It would be six figures.”
I stopped unloading my bag and stared at him for a second. That was amazing news. I turned and wrapped my arms around his neck and jumped up, wrapping my legs around him. He grabbed the back of my thighs.
I kissed him deeply, then gave him kisses all over his cheeks. “Cooper, this is amazing news! I am so very proud of you. I knew you would be awesome! Now you can tell your dad that you made the right decision by not going to medical school.”
“Thanks, Babe. It’s still such a shock, but it feels great, knowing I already have a job.”
I kissed him again and pulled back. “I’m so happy for you, and I love knowing your job is here, where I’ll be next year.”
At about nine o’clock, Jen and I finally finished studying and headed to Josh’s house. Josh was a friend of Cooper’s, whom he met his first year of college. We got along great, but I didn’t really consider him my friend; he was Cooper’s friend. He was a great guy, and I was glad that Cooper had him.
As we pulled up, I looked around; cars were everywhere. The house was an older, small brick home, close to campus.
We started walking up the sidewalk when I saw my brother, Chris. “Hey, Chris. Is Cooper inside?” He grabbed my hand and kept walking in the direction he was walking––away from the house.
“What are you doing?” I asked him. “I’d like to go inside with Cooper.”
He stopped walking and turned around to face me. “You don’t want to go in there. I told him to leave.”
My stomach knotted a little, “What are you talking about? Why would you want Cooper to leave?” I was so confused.
“Jason showed up with some weed. I know you hate it when Cooper smokes, but tonight he’s acting funny. Maybe it would just be best if you left. No one wants to see y’all argue.”
Great. Just great. Instead of celebrating Cooper’s good news together, he was celebrating by getting high. “You’re right. I hate it, but I’ll keep my temper in check. We can talk about it tomorrow. Just let me go inside.”
Chris nodded and let go of me. We walked into the house; people were everywhere. As I searched the small house for Cooper, I realized I didn’t know anyone here. It was easy to search the small living room; no Cooper in sight. I made my way through all of the people to search the kitchen, but I still didn’t see him.
I turned around to search elsewhere and heard a familiar voice say, “Oh, look who it is: Cooper’s nag.”
My anger flared, but I managed to keep it under control. Jason knew I couldn’t stand him, and he was just trying to piss me off. It was working. I decided to not even turn around; I just kept walking.

“She’s not going to like what she finds in the bedroom,” I heard him say behind me. My stomach was in knots as I realized I had searched everywhere but the bedrooms and bathrooms. I could feel something like fear creeping into every fiber of my being. I needed to get a handle on it; I knew Cooper wouldn’t cheat on me. He loves me…

Review: Five Ways to Fall, by K.A. Tucker

Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

4.5 out of 5 stars

Five Ways to Fall completely took me by surprise in how much I truly enjoyed the book.  Want to hear a small confession...I haven't read all the books in this series, just the first one, Ten Tiny Breaths, so I didn't even remember Ben as the bouncer from the first story!  Obviously this one could be read as a stand-alone.

Speaking of Ben, he is this cocky, funny, good looking, sensitive...just an all around complete package package, recent law school graduate.  Looking to celebrate before joining the real world he and his buddies head south to Mexico.  Your first impression of him is that of a frat boy just looking to score with as many women as he can, which also unbeknownst to him includes his future boss' step-daughter.  The thing with Ben though is once you dig a little deeper, once he starts opening himself up, you see his life isn't picture perfect and honestly you aren't going to be able to help falling in love.  His past hasn't been easy and its set him up for a very lonely future, the question is whether or not he will find the desire, find the will to fight for true happiness.

Reese, the step-daughter who wears the pain of her past for all to see.  She lives life recklessly, she desperately wants to be fully and completely shown love, even acceptance.  Rejection is tough and it's taken in toll on Reese.  However, despite her past at her core she is headstrong and loves living life to its fullest, taking every chance and opportunity to push boundaries.  She often acts before thinking, but what I love is that she does it without any regrets.  She gets herself in a bit of a pickle and her former step-father offers a life-line she know she cannot refuse.  Will it provide the motivation she needs to move on from her past and embrace her future?

I truly enjoyed watching these two character's work through the shock of having their lives intertwined.  I could tell even from their first meeting they would make good friends, while still hoping they would find "more."  Together, they know how to push one another's buttons, how to make each other laugh, but they also never hesitate to help one another out.  Quickly Ben and Reese realize they can truly rely on each other.  Yes, they've got plenty of sexual chemistry and they never dance around the issue, but they also don't rush into sleeping together either.  It's a slow, burning build, and this perfect pace allowed me the opportunity to appreciate each of them as individuals, and savor the moment they each let their guards down.  What I also appreciated about this book was in was written in a way which portrayed these damaged individuals who still had good, full, open hearts.  Yes their past tormented their present but they didn't allow it to beat them down, they still found a way to live, to have fun.

Throughout the story I found myself smiling and laughing and even now, days after I've finished reading I still have that coveted book high from finding a story I couldn't help but treasure.  Give this book and K.A. Tucker a chance.  To be honest, I enjoyed it so much I will be going back and reading the books I previously missed!

I received an copy for review from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

About Not Over You
Summer Holland is set on one thing--convincing her childhood sweetheart *and* local preacher's son, Gabriel Edwards, to marry her so she can get back the daughter she gave up for adoption. She’s always been able to count on him to rescuing her when she needed it most, but this time is different… there’s a new woman in Gabriel’s life. Only, Summer's not going to let a little thing like that get in her way.

It would be a marriage of major inconvenience…

There’s only been one woman for Gabriel Edwards—Summer Holland, the daughter of Holland Spring's most notorious woman. But unless Summer needs cash, food or a place to stay, she wants nothing to do with him. He’s done playing her knight in shining armor. He’s finally found the woman to settle down with—the town’s newest librarian. She’s smart and sweet, and wholly in love with him. Nothing and no one will get in the way of his plans... until, that is, Summer comes home to Holland Springs, and needs his help once more.

Determined to protect her heart, Summer tries to keep Gabriel at arm's length, but with one hot kiss, she realizes that not only did she get more than she bargained for, but she might not be over him.
The sun slipped under the horizon, making his running lights visible along the blacktop. Great. Just great. How was he supposed to find her?
Light glowed from the forest of pine trees by the old Holland place. He slowly braked, put the truck in park, and rolled down the passenger side window, watching as the bugs blinked on and off.
Before he knew what was happening, he’d unbuckled his seatbelt, opened the door, and strode into the forest. He crept through the woods, quiet as a predator hunting his prey, and then came to a sight that stole his breath away.
Summer, all alone in a meadow of spring flowers. Well, if you didn’t count the fireflies dancing around her.
Laughing with pure joy, she waved a hand in the air. The fireflies followed her movements, reminding him of kids playing with sparklers on the Fourth of July.
  His gut clenched.
The fireflies continued their dance, moths joining in. Something swept past him. He followed the blur and realized it was a bat, most likely trying to eat the conveniently placed snack.
Summer laughed again, drawing his attention back to her. She threw out her arms and spun around. He felt himself drift closer, like he was one of those moths…and she the flame.
“Summer.” Her name a prayer on his lips. A plea in his heart.

And more than anything else… they’ll have to fight like hell to keep each other.

“I don’t know if I can even sleep tonight,” I muttered and rubbed at my arms. They were restless. “I can already feel myself twitching.” “Tomorrow…” Dad began, but stopped. He sighed forcefully and tightened his fists. “I’ll go find him and make him come here if he doesn’t come on his own.” “Dad, you didn’t see him. He was…” I bit into my lip hard. Just talking about him was making me ache all over. I closed my eyes and tried to breathe. I heard Mom say, “Baby, I think we need to stop talking about this. It’s just making things worse for her.” “I know, but…maybe I should go over there. Maybe I should try to find him and—you know what? No.” I looked up to find him looking down at me. “I’m not going to do that. It has to be his choice until it’s not. I’ll give him until tomorrow to be the good guy. If he doesn’t, then I’ll go get him and make him. I can tell by looking at you that you want to have faith in him.” “You didn’t see him, Dad,” I reiterated. “He wanted this. He was worried about me. He’ll come. He’ll find me.” I hoped. “If what you said is true, then he didn’t choose any of what happened. He’s not a Watson.” “But he’s lived with them his whole life,” Mom reasoned. “We have no idea the things they’ve done to him, the things they’ve made him do. We have to be cautious. You have to cautious.” She went into the kitchen and I heard a pill bottle shake before she came back. “Here. Take these. They’ll help you sleep tonight. They were Grans,” she said softly. I ached as the pills went down. I heard Rodney coming in the back door loudly. Dad went right to him and put his hand on his chest to stop him. They whispered back and forth and Rodney looked at me over Dad’s shoulder. Dad wasn’t going to be able to stop him. He didn’t know that, but I did. “Come on, Dad,” Rodney said gruffly and looked at him right in his face. “Move.” He pushed his Champion gently in the shoulder and I watched Dad’s stunned face as he watched Rodney come and sweep we up in his big brotherly arms on the couch. He said low in my ear, but I knew that they still could hear, “Tell me who I have to hurt. Who is this guy and why isn’t he here with you right now?” I looked at Dad and he looked so amused and bemused all at once. He waved me on and leaned his hip against the counter, pulling Mom into the ‘v’ of his legs so he could wrap his arms around her from behind. I heard her so sigh loud and hated that I was causing them so much distress. “Seth,” I explained. “Seth Watson,” I said with as much gumption as I could muster. His eyes rounded. I told him everything and he tightened his arms on me as he listened. “Okay,” he said and kicked his shoes off the end of the couch. Mom was two seconds from scolding him when he asked, “So where is he? He should be here.” Like fate usually worked, there was a knock on the front door. An insistent knock. Dad shot me a look before taking a loaded breath. I started to shake and stood from the couch quickly. It was him; I knew it like I knew my own name. “Ava, wait,” he told me. “Dad.” “You, sit,” he said in his Champion voice. “I’ll answer and let him in. What if the Watsons were planning something and knew you’d run to the door to answer it thinking it was him? We know nothing about him yet. Until we do, we go at this with caution.” I sighed. I hated that I had to look at my significant with anything but reverence, but Daddy was right. I mean, I was the one that had run right out of the coffee shop this afternoon. “I mean it, baby girl,” he said softly. Rodney turned me to look at him and held my upper arms in his hands. “If he hurts you, I can’t be held account for what I do.” “I love you, you know that?” I replied and kissed his cheek. I tried to smile, but think I failed epically when he put one arm around my shoulders and tugged me close, as if to shield me from whatever or whoever was coming. Dad had to know I was anxious—he didn’t make me wait. He went to the door quickly. I could hear them in the other room with deep, urgent tones. My significant. And then there he was.
