Review: The Consequence of Revenge by Rachel Van Dyken

SYNOPSIS:

After losing his best friend to another guy, the notoriously too-confident Max Emory suddenly feels lost. So when his fed-up friends decide they’ve had enough of his moping, they sign him up to be the next bachelor on the reality series Love Island. And between his pride and his forged signature on an ironclad contract, Max just can’t say no. Now he’s stranded in paradise with twenty-four women, oneterrifying goat, and Becca, the breathtaking barista who already turned him down back home. The closer Max gets to Becca, the more determined he becomes to win her over. As she gets to know him better, things start heating up. REVIEW:  4.5 of 5

This is the second book in the Consequence Series by Rachel Van Dyken.  I thoroughly enjoyed the first book about Colton and Milo.  This series is very similar in my mind to the Bet Series.  It doesn't have Grandma Nadine however, Max kept me laughing in book one.  I was so excited to read more about him in The Consequence of Revenge.

The book begins with Max having zero direction.  He is still upset about losing his best friend, Milo to Colt and even though he is happy for them he is sad that his BFF has a new BFF.  Jason, Milo's brother is still around and has to have the worst luck of anyone around.  And well, Reid is still bitter about his grandma encounter in book one.

To execute revenge, Jason and the rest of the gang sign Max up for a reality tv show, Bachelor style.  Max is alone on an island with 25 women, most of which are cray-cray. The only one that seems to be sane is Becca, the barista at the local starbucks that already shot Max down and can't stand him.  At this point, I should tell you, this book is laugh out loud funny.  It has some crazy, unbelievable scenes but to me, I love it.  Max is completely nuts but has such charisma that I love to see what is going to pop out of his mouth next.  I especially enjoy all of the Twilight references among others.

I imagine that this book is sort of what it is like to actually be a contestant on a reality show.  Completely ridiculous and maddening with the camera crews, insane contestants and dates.  I loved every second of this book and think it would be a great read for you when you really just want a light-hearted, funny book.
