Review: Becoming Rain, by K.A. Tucker

Synopsis
A suspense-driven New Adult romance novel from the USA TODAY bestselling author of Ten Tiny Breaths and Burying Water.

Luke Boone doesn't know exactly what his uncle Rust is involved in but he wants in on it—the cars, the money, the women. And it looks like he's finally getting his wish. When Rust hands him the managerial keys to the garage, they come with a second set—one that opens up the door to tons of cash and opportunity. Though it's not exactly legal, Luke's never been one to worry about that sort of thing. Especially when it puts him behind the wheel of a Porsche 911 and onto the radar of gorgeous socialite named Rain.

Clara Bertelli is at the top of her game—at only twenty-six years old, she's one of the most successful undercover officers in the Washington, DC, major crime unit, and she's just been handed a case that could catapult her career and expose one of the West coast's most notorious car theft rings. But, in order to do it, she'll need to go deep undercover as Rain Martines. Her target? The twenty-four-year-old nephew of a key player who appears ready to follow in his uncle's footsteps.

As Clara drifts deeper into the luxurious lifestyle of Rain, and further into the arms of her very attractive and charming target, the lines between right and wrong start to blur, making her wonder if she'll be able to leave it all behind. Or if she'll even want to.

Review
4.5 out of 5 stars

Burying Water (the first book in this series) was one of my top books of 2014, so I knew Becoming Rain was a must read.  I had my doubts, worried that this book just wouldn't be as captivating as the first one, but now that I'm finished I realize I must be crazy for doubting K.A. Tucker's ability to tell a good story filled with as much romance as suspense.

Luke Boone is this young ambitious guy.  He's eager to move up in the world and wants a piece of his Uncle's side business.  He has an idea there are some shady dealings going on but I think he is clueless as to how deep and dangerous those dealings run.  He also has this uncanny ability to justify everything he is seeing as long as no one is getting hurt.

Clara, also young and ambitious, is trying to make a name for herself in the world.  An opportunity to work undercover for the FBI would be HUGE for her career.  She jumps at the opportunity and vows to do whatever it takes to bring justice to the families suffering from the dealings of this illegal car ring.

Neither Luke nor Clara are looking for love but it finds them nevertheless.  The only question which remains is what's going to happen when the truth comes out because let's face it, the truth will always surface!

Luke and Clara's story was perfectly scripted and couldn't have unfolded at a better pace.  Having the opportunity to become Rain gave Clara the unique opportunity to live a very different life than her own.  The more she gets to know Luke the blurrier the lines become.  She understand and empathizes with his drive to be a part of his Uncle's business and as the realizes Luke doesn't know the full extent of the situation it gets easier and easier for her to justify his involvement.

Rain/Clara is an incredibly easy character to like.  She isn't perfect and she knows it, but I respect her for following her gut while still staying true to the things she believes in.  The depth of details K.A. Tucker goes into with this story is amazing, and it's clear she put a lot of thought and research into this story.  The end result is a perfect plot with will take you on an intriguing journey and leave you more than satisfied with it's ending.  This book is without a doubt a must read!
