Release Day: Sail, by M. Mabie

Sail
Book Two in The Wake Series
by M. Mabie

Synopsis
This isn’t just a two-year long one-night stand. It’s my life.
This is my life. Our life. It isn’t just some careless affair.
I’ve made the worst decisions a woman could, but I’ll earn my second chance.
She can try keeping all the guilt for herself, but I’m just as much to blame.
Loving Casey wasn’t my biggest mistake. Fighting it for so long was.
I’ll show her how fearless our love makes me. I’ll protect her torn heart.
He still has magic in his eyes. He’s the man who makes me happy.
Her voice still brings me to my knees. She says my name like it’s sacred.
I live for the day when I’m his. To take care of him. To love him the way he deserves.
I can’t wait to be all she needs. I can give her a happy life, security and so much love.
Sometimes two ships never meet in the night, but ours did.
Sometimes the water is rough. It beats you all to hell until you have no choice but get stronger.
Our love story reads more like a tragedy, but to me it’s clean and pure.
Let them point their fingers. Without a love like ours, they haven’t really lived. I pity them.
I’m a cheating wife and a villain. I am his honeybee.
I’m a snake in the grass and I sleep best when I’m lying next to his wife.
I want to be his everything.
I’m nothing without her anyway.
This isn’t even close to over.
It’ll never be over.

Sail is the second book in the continuing Wake Series. For more information on the first book in the series see the link for Bait below.

Bait (The Wake Series, Pt. 1)

 Synopsis

He was trouble from the start, but I couldn't resist.
She was the best kind of trouble. The kind that was so wrong, it felt right.
I’ve tried and failed to stay away from him.
I’ve done everything in my power to make her mine and keep her.
He’s almost impossible to say no to.
She never tells me yes.
We’re always fighting.
When we’re not fighting, we’re… well… making up.
He makes me laugh so hard.
I miss her laugh the most.
I'm a liar.
She knows the truth, but won’t admit it.
Sometimes, I wish I'd never met him.
I wish we could meet all over again. I'd do better.
His sweet girlfriend knows.
The guy she’s with is a fool.
I’ll never love anyone like I love him.
She doesn’t love me enough to choose us.
It was the wrong place.
It was the wrong time.
It should have been him.
It will always be her.

Our Bait Review
4.75 out of 5 stars

I have been waiting a while to get my hands on Bait by my friend, M. Mabie.  Since she first announced she was writing it, then with the release of the teasers...simply put I could not wait to get my hands on it!  For those of you who don't know, Ms. Mabie was a blogger turned author.  Her first book, Fade In, was not only hysterical but the story line itself was really good as well.  However, even knowing I liked her writing style I absolutely was not prepared for Blake and Casey's story in Bait.  To say it was freaking amazing is almost an understatement!  I finished this book over 4 days ago and I literally still can't get the details, or the characters out of my head, it's even "haunting" me in my dreams!

I'm gonna go ahead and tell you, this story has some major cheating in it, so if you are anti stories with unfaithfulness then maybe you should steer clear of this one, but then again, I'm not one who condones cheating either, but damn if I didn't enjoy reading about the mess Blake constantly puts herself in.  Once I got started in the story, vested in the characters, honestly I couldn't put it down.  Blake, the heroine, is dating a guy back home when she visits her friend in San Franciso.  While she "loves" Grant, she has reservations, she just doesn't know if he is the one she wants to tie herself down with.  It's as though her inner conscious is pushing her to sow a few oats, be a little crazy.  Of course in my mind I'm screaming if you're having those feelings he's not "the one" for you, because when you find "the one," your conscious, your heart, your soul, your everything are perfectly aligned.  Anyways, while visiting her best friend, she meets Casey and they instantly hit it off.  Sparks fly and neither one can say no.  But what happens when Blake's night of craziness is over and she must attempt to return to normal life?

I'm not going to lie, Blake's character really frustrated me.  Throughout most of my time with her I was on the verge pulling my hair out, or throwing my kindle and punching something all at the same time!  Since the story is seamlessly told from alternating POV it was easy for me to forget the other character can't see/hear all that I can.  While I know where each person's feelings and heart truly lie in reality neither one of them knows what the other's intentions are.  Once I calmed down and remembered some of my frustrations eased, but I still maintain she could have prevented so much angst and turmoil, but then again if she had done things differently we wouldn't have had such an awesome story in Bait.  In the end I can honestly say as a whole I do like Blake.  She is funny, carefree and at her core she desperately wants true happiness, but is scared.  She is on the road to finding herself, finding who and what allows her to be the person she was meant to be, she's just taken the bumpy road.  I think most of us can relate.

Casey has without a doubt made it on my top book boyfriends list!  He makes me laugh, makes me cry, is handsome, romantic and a smart ass for good measure.  I adore him and I will never eat cheesecake or drink coffee the same again!  My heart broke time and time again for him, to the point I couldn't help but think was somewhat of a glutton for punishment.  He knows how to invoke some major reactions from Blake, and in doing so he absolutely brings out the best in her, when she is with him she can be her true self instead the person others want her to be.  Moments with Casey are so freeing to Blake, and as a reader when I was caught up in those moments with the two of them I just knew they were meant to be.  But life isn't easy and taking a leap of faith, placing your whole trust in another person is even more difficult.

I have tried to stay away from specifics in an effort not to spoil the story as well as the experience of reading this story.  The title is perfect and when you learn the meaning behind it, you will proclaim what I did---that is genius!  If you enjoy the kind of books which make you want to devour them in one sitting while at the same time leaving you scared to finish because you are too nervous as to what will happen next then you absolutely need to one click Bait today.  This book will without a doubt open the floodgates to pretty much every emotion you can imagine.  Yes it ends without finishing the story but what else do you expect from Part 1 of a series!  I am counting down the days until Sail releases while still nursing one heck of a book hangover.  M. Mabie needs to hurry and finish Part 2 like yesterday!

Synopsis
I was a hopeless romantic, enjoying my life as I finished out my senior year of high school. My life was that of a typical student, nothing exciting happening to me until the day I met him.

Bryant was everything I wanted, but never knew was possible. The problem was, he didn't feel the same way. Or at least that’s how it appeared.

But our chemistry was undeniable, unavoidable and soon consumed us both. We fell hard and fast, and we crashed even harder leaving a wake of destruction behind us after a tragedy rocked our relationship.

Leaving behind Tampa and Bryant was the hardest thing I ever did, but I had to, for my survival. But one day, when my life hangs in the balance, Bryant is the only one who could save me, and all I could do was think about every moment I regretted not spending it with him.

Excerpt

Bryant~

After getting Rose to the barn, I stormed off, needing to get away and think it all through; obviously, I wasn't separating from her. I hiked up to the clearing in the woods and twirled the jewelry box that held a diamond ring in my hand, thinking how much better it would be with a few paychecks under my belt. She wouldn't leave once I proposed and she saw how good this job was, although, I knew Rose could hold a grudge like no other, but she wouldn't be able to ignore how good this was all for our family.
I looked to my phone and realized an hour had passed by, but she hadn't called me. No reception -- go figure. I walked toward the road again, and my phone beeped with a text from Rose, oh yeah she's still pissed, I decided to call a friend from paramedic school to come get me to grab a few beers and has it out. My phone rang relentlessly from Leslie, Grant, and Jordan. I assumed that they were calling to lecture me about smothering her dreams. When it rang again I pushed the power button to shut my phone off and silence the annoyance.
....Seriously? Leave it to him to swoop in and be the hero of the day, Mr. Amazing. I'm sure he was filling her ear with how this was exactly what he'd meant, and that he still loved her. With a smug grin, I answered the phone and told him off, hanging up before he could get a word out. I was intoxicated for sure. I decided it wasn't the best time to call rose to press my point about being a grown mature person in my current condition, so I headed to my apartment to sleep it off.
....I knocked on the door, figuring her mom would be safe and would understand, since she'd given me a very stern lecture about supporting my family and getting my priorities in check...
Mrs. Barnes's answered the door, shaking and crying.
"What? What's wrong?" I asked in a panic, knowing it was Rose.
She just kept blubbering and wouldn't answer me, so I reached out and grabbed her arms.
I gave her a shake and yelled, "What. Is. Wrong.!?"
Her eyes cleared out from a haze, and she finally answered me.....

Excerpt: “You didn’t ask for her number.” She scowls and pokes her finger into my chest. I look down at it, then glance up at her with a raised brow. “You just assaulted an officer.” “I did?” She swallows hard. “Yes. I might have to arrest you.” “With handcuffs?” She smiles gleefully, clearly excited at the thought. “Would you like me to arrest you with handcuffs?” “Hell to the yes!” “Kate?” There’s suddenly a very tall, very irritated man standing behind the fiery redhead, staring daggers into me. I can’t help but laugh. “I’m talking to the hot Asher,” she says, not turning to look at him. “I assaulted him, and he’s a cop, and he’s going to put me in handcuffs.” “No, I don’t believe he will.” I laugh again. “There’s nothing going on here, man.” “Come see Lila!” Kate takes my hand, pulling me from my stool to the table behind us. Most of the women have cleared out, leaving just a few, including the sexy as fuck woman I met on the plane yesterday. “Where did everyone go?” “Declan took them home,” Lila replies, and her hand stops midway between the table and her lips, holding her drink. Her violet eyes widen when she sees me. “Hi.” “We meet again.” I sit next to her, my fingers itching to plunge in her dark hair and brush it over her shoulder. “How are you, Lila?” “Fine.” She clears her throat and smiles at me. “I didn’t think I’d ever see you again.” “A happy coincidence,” I reply softly. “You look beautiful.” And she does. Her eyes are a bit glassy from the alcohol, her cheeks just a little flushed. Her hair is straight and falls down her back and over her slim shoulders. Before I can ask her questions about her trip here, or anything about her, we are soon pulled into the conversation with the others at the table. But when Kate asks Lila if she’s ready to go, I’m shocked when Lila responds with, “I’m gonna have Asher take me home.”

  Easy with You Teaser 2

About EASY WITH YOU: Nothing has ever come easy for Lila Bailey. She’s fought for every good thing in her life during every day of her thirty-one years. Aside from that one night with an impossible to deny stranger a year ago, Lila is the epitome of responsible. Steadfast. Strong. She’s pulled herself out of the train wreck of her childhood, proud to be a professor at Tulane University and laying down roots in a city she’s grown to love. But when some of her female students are viciously murdered, Lila’s shaken to the core and unsure of whom she can trust in New Orleans. When the police detective assigned to the murder case comes to investigate, she’s even more surprised to find herself staring into the eyes of the man that made her toes curl last year. In an attempt to move on from the tragic loss of his wife, Asher Smith moved his daughter and himself to a new city, ready for a fresh start. A damn fine police lieutenant, but new to the New Orleans force, Asher has a lot to prove to his colleagues and himself. With a murderer terrorizing the Tulane University campus, Asher finds himself toe-to-toe with the one woman that haunts his dreams. His hands, his lips, his body know her as intimately as he’s ever known anyone. But when Lila becomes the target, can Asher save her in time, or will he lose another woman he loves?

  Easy With You teaser 1

A Message from Kristen Proby: Dear readers, As you know, the With Me In Seattle series came to a close earlier this month with the eighth and final installment, FOREVER WITH ME. I've been steadfast in my decision that there would be no further stories from the series, no spin-offs, nothing more. In my mind, it was complete. And I still feel that the Montgomery/Williams families are complete, and I maintain that I'm happy with their happy-ever-afters. But, I've also heard you when you've said that Asher, Matt Montgomery's partner in TIED WITH ME, deserves to have a happily ever after for himself and his daughter Casey. So, when the lovely ladies from 1001 Dark Nights asked me to participate in their wonderful project, I thought long and hard about whose story it should be about. Seattle is finished, and I've moved on to New Orleans for the new Boudreaux Series... And then it occurred to me: why not do both, and offer a companion novella to each of the series? And so, because you, the reader, has been so insistent that you want to see Asher and Casey find their perfect person, I'm excited to introduce you to EASY WITH YOU. I think you're going to love Asher and Lila's love story this spring... Happy Reading, Kristen Proby

One Last Sin Excerpt One: Bleu’s POV
I watch the number above the elevator doors increase as the lift rises to our floor. Twelve. Thirteen. Fourteen. Three more to go. It’s too many when your husband pins your body against him while his hand roams downward to rub between your legs.
He’s fervent to say the least.
Warm breath moves over my ear. A tingle races down my spine and goosebumps erupt over my skin. I’m sure there’s a camera on us right now. All elevators have them. “We’re probably giving a thrill to whoever is watching the security footage.”
“Don’t give a fuck. The thrill I’m feeling is much more important to me right now.”
The doors open and we sprint toward our room. Sin is so anxious his first three attempts at unlocking the door are unsuccessful. “Son of a bitch. The keycard isn’t working.”
I hold out my hand and he places the card in my palm. I slide it in and pull it slower. Click. “Open sesame.”
“Fuck. That was sexy.”
All I did was open a door. “I put the keycard in the hole and pulled it out.”
“I know,” he growls while pulling me through the door toward the bed.
We shed our coats and go to work on all fabric barriers preventing our bodies from being bare against one another. He undresses himself while I do the same, his eyes never leaving my body. “Shite. I may come before you get naked.”
My eyes immediately drop to the crotch of his boxer briefs. He has a huge erection tenting his underwear with a wet spot covering the tip. “Don’t you dare.”
I undress faster. More than one stitch pops as I pull my dress over my head. Articles of clothing drop randomly to the floor with no regard for wrinkling.

Review: 4.25 of 5 stars

I was gifted a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.  If you haven't read the first 2 books in the series, please read them before reading this review as it will container spoilers to the first books in the series.
I love Stella Bleu and Sin Breckenridge.  Their story is a lot of fun to read.  I love the chemistry  they always have together and the drama that the Scottish mafia brings to the story.  I like to root for the "bad guy" sometimes.
That being said, the final book in the series begins right where book two ends.  Bleu is kidnapped the the leader of The Order and she is on her own for a while to figure a way out of the mess since Sin was arrested by the scumbag detective.  Of course, they have to find a way out of the mess for the story to continue!
This story has a really good conclusion.  It comes full circle.  We get to see a lot more of Bleu's sister, Ellison.  We also see the leader that she and Sin can be together.  They are a team and work together.  We also get to finally find out about Bleu's mother's killer and find out the conclusion to that storyline.  I am really happy with the way the story ended.  While somewhat predictable, I thoroughly enjoyed all three books in the series and recommend them highly!  Well done, Ms. Cates!
