I received and ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review...

I was scanning through the books on Netgalley looking for something to catch my attention when I came across Crashing Into You.  I really liked the cover and the synopsis looked interesting (read below) so I requested the title and jumped into the story.

Synopsis:

Bookish college sophomore Sydney Baker wants Evan Taylor with every ounce of her being.  The hottest stud on campus, Evan is six foot four, ripped, stacked with muscles.  He's even easy to talk to.

There's just one problem:  he's her roommate Melanie's boyfriend.

But when Melanie tragically dies after a night of wild partying, Sydney and Evan turn to each other in a time of intense grief.  And it doesn't take long for their close friendship to blossom into something more.  

Unfortunately for Sydney, secrets from the past soon put her relationship with Evan to the test.  Especially when a sexy blonde freshman makes her way into Evan's life, and tries to rip away everything Sydney holds close to her heart.

Early on in the story readers learn Sydney has secretly been in love with her roommate's boyfriend Evan since they first met, but accepts all they will ever be is friends, but a girl can hope right?  You also learn she sometimes goes out of her way to create opportunities to see or spend time with him.  It's obvious from the synopsis that after Melanie dies Sydney and Even will eventually date and I was wondering if the story would be told in a way that I could pull for the two of them as a couple.  Would it feel weird seeing them together?  

Throughout the book I had a really hard time connecting with Sydney.  From the get go she seemed sort of self absorbed, kind of rigid towards people and oftentimes too judgmental.  The story is told completely from her perspective and why I understood where she was coming from lots of times those attributes and the thoughts in her mind or the words that came out of her mouth held me back from connecting with her.  I also felt as though she seemed to desperate to have Evan notice her.  But she did redeem herself in my eyes when she finally made the decision to either pursue a romantic relationship or end their friendship and finally move on to finding someone who loved her.

Hearing the story solely from Sydney's perspective the only things we know about Evan are that Sydney is infatuated with him, he is extremely good looking, easy to talk to and may be somewhat interested in Sydney although mainly he keeps their interactions strictly friendly.  It wasn't enough for me to think of Evan as a great guy, or even to call him swoon-worthy.  I didn't make any kind of connection with him.

Once the two of them become involved I started to feel the chemistry they shared and I do think Evan loved her and wanted to be with her.  I think if we had been given the opportunity to have both perspectives throughout the entire story I would have felt more emotionally invested in both characters.  At least if we knew Evan's perspective we could see what kind of a guy he really is, if he really loved Sydney, what was really going on with him and Melanie.  In my opinion this story desperately needed his side of the story, if I could have heard from both characters I think I could have sympathized with them more at the end or at least have been more emotionally attached to the two of them and their relationship.

I do think B.D. Rowe certainly created an interesting story line otherwise I wouldn't have even finished the book.  I love how the author showed Sydney's life and college experience being changed as a result of the accident.  Sydney has had a difficult past, one that she hasn't recovered from and she is also a character who has a lot to learn and who needs a good dose of self confidence.  I think there is room for some major character growth if a sequel is to be written.  

The ending leaves the story unresolved and I have no idea if there are plans for a sequel, but I think it would be interesting to see where the characters will go if there is a second book, especially after the crazy events leading up to the ending.  As with any review you won't know yourself how you feel about a book until you travel the journey.  So if you're looking for a different kind of journey one click Crashing Into You today!

My eyes are glistening with tears as I scrawl my signature at the bottom of the letter, touch my fingers to my lips, press them onto her name and close my journal. I look over to my left where Kyle is softly snoring, sleeping soundly. I mouth the words “I love you” to him, touch his back lightly, put my journal in my night table drawer and turn out the soft light by my bedside. I curl my body into his, tuck my head into his chest and hold on tight.

I love this man with all that I am and I love the father that he is going to be.

Once again the amazing Colleen Hoover has blown my mind!  Yes, this book was short...hello its a novella, but the story isn't lacking.  Prepare to fall in love with Daniel, he's Holder's best friend so of course you're going to like him, but even without the connection he earns the swoon-worthy title all on his own and he and Six make such a great couple.  

Having previously read Hopeless and Losing Hope I was already familiar with them both but I had no idea they would have such a crazy connection nor did I realize their love story would would be so meaningful.  

So what can you expect from this novella????  An strong instant connection between two great characters, a good dose of humor, a heartwarming love story and a surprise twist ending!  I know Colleen wrote this book as a thank you to her fans, but we should be the ones thanking her for another great book journey.  I also realize it was a free download but I enjoyed the story so much I would have been more than happy to pay for the experience.  Finding Cinderella was well written with all the loose ends tied up nicely.  It was sweet, touching romantic, funny...just fantastic!  Take a couple of hours for yourself, relax and fall in love with Daniel and Six.

Kelli Pinkins is an all around wholesome "good-girl."  She comes from an affluent family, makes good grades, goes to church regularly, works at the local Christian bookstore, is a great tennis player, and is never found in any sort of compromising situations.  In the town of Sundale, where trust funds are a common occurrence Kelli is the ideal girl you want to bring home to your uptight, strict parents, the ones who no doubt will revoke your trust fund if you get even the slightest bit out of line.

Kelli's best attribute, her secret job.  The one no parent's know about, the one in which you pay her a set price and she will happily stay locked up in her room on Friday night and be your alibi allowing you to date the girl or boy your parents will not approve of.  Kelli is more than happy to give up her Friday nights in exchange for the extra cash, not that she needs it.  While her clients are out living it up Kelli spends her Friday nights in front of the TV playing Xbox online with fellow gamer ChazTaz.

So what happens when one night while "on the job" Kelli accompanies her best friend Sades to an arcade/bowling alley and she literally has a run in with Chase Moroney aka Moron, who also happens to be a good looking college guy, while trying to keep her cover?  He drives her crazy but if she really starts to think about it he treats her like he cares about her, talks to her like he wants to get to know her and furthermore she cannot get him out of her mind.  Does she actually want to kiss him?  When she does will her feelings for him be enough to give up the alibi gig and risk an actual relationship, not one just on paper?

I chose to read this book because the synopsis looked fun to me.  The story line sounded fresh and thus my interest was piqued.  I took me several chapters to really get into the story.  I wasn't really sure I liked Kelli, in the beginning she seemed kind of full of herself and my first impression was she was really only in it for the money.  However, as the story progressed and I was able to see her true intentions and motivations my feelings towards her softened.  When Chase was introduced I immediately liked his character.  He was mysterious, fun, sweet, and easy going.  He and Kelli definitely have chemistry and reading their back and forth banter and practical jokes often had me chuckling.

Eventually I found myself vested in the story, wondering what would happen.  Would Kelli realize she was falling in love?  Would she feel secure enough in herself to give up her alibi crutch?  In the end I thought Friday Night Alibi was a sweet story.  It would be perfectly suited for your teenage daughter as all the physical interaction is very PG.  In addition most situations tackled in the pages of this book are very minor and you won't find too much drama or many emotional roller coasters.  I typically enjoy these attributes in a book and was a little disappointed they were missing.  In the end, Friday Night Alibi is a good clean young adult romance with a very refreshing plot line and if this is the type of story you are looking for then don't hesitate to one click!

I must start the review by saying how much I enjoyed this book!  It was like watching a really good romance movie.  The kind where you know what the ending is going to hold but watching the characters get there is the best part, in fact its what makes the movie so good.  That's exactly how I felt about Searching for Someday.  

The story starts out introducing you individually to both Kate and Slade.  This allows you to get a feel for who they are and what's currently going on in their lives.  Slade is a high-powered successful divorce attorney who is fiercely protective of his baby sister.  Scarred from both his past and his profession he doesn't believe in true love or happily ever afters.  Kate on the other hand is a successful entrepreneur of a match-making business and not only does she believe in love, happiness and soul-mates she also has a sixth-sense and knows when two people are matched perfectly.  However, with this gift also comes a curse because she can feel when two people are meant to be together, she hasn't felt any of the guys she's dated where her true soul mate and after countless failed attempts finds herself alone, frustrated and needing to take a break from the dating world.

Needless to say upon their first meeting their beliefs clash, sparks fly and they're each left determined to prove the other wrong.  Frustrations and doubt aside neither one can stop thinking about the other and if these two ever give into the sexual tension they share it'll explode!

The story and romance between Kate and Slade was a gradual build-up, which in this case was perfect.  The attraction, chemistry and eventual love wouldn't have been realistic if they had jumped right in upon first touch.  It was essential for each of them to fight their inner demons and struggle through their own fears before embracing their true feelings and going after what they really wanted.  In the end readers get a light, fun heart-warming read.  Don't worry there is also plenty of good smut for those of us who also enjoy that in our reading endeavors!

You should definitely take the time to read this book when it releases, November 26th, what better way to spend your Thanksgiving holiday!  Also for those of you who are fans of Jennifer's Marriage to a Billionaire series you will be excited to know there are appearances in this story from some of you favorite characters of that series.  Pre-Order your copy of Searching for Someday today.

We were asked to be part of the blog tour for the first book in the Tempest series by Michelle Mankin and even though I had never read her books before, I was excited to read this one based on the synopsis alone.  And the cover, I mean who doesn’t love the tatted guy?  Definitely hot, definitely worth reading!  I did receive an arc in return for my honest opinion, so lets get on with the reviewing!

I have a confession, I love rock stars, I love tattooed hotties, and I really love a good love triangle.  This story begins as a flash back to troubled teens Bryan Jackson and Warren Jinkins and some bad rebellious choices they made. You are also introduced to Lace Lowell who along with her brother Dizzy, grew up with Bryan and War.  There are many flashbacks and horrible pasts that the characters have to face. 

When you flash to the present War is the lead singer of Tempest the newest up and coming band.  Bryan is the lead guitar and Dizzy, Sager and King also fit in the band somewhere too.  They each have their own personality and I can’t wait to read more about them in this series.  This book is what I imagine a true rock band deals with on a daily basis.  I can just imagine Steven Tyler reminiscing about Aerosmith days with some similar stories.  Truly, it is the cliché sex, drugs and rock and roll.  (Though not necessarily in that order)  War is the typical lead singer who demands everything be done his way, all the time.  He continuously holds a past over Bryan’s head and basically pisses me off.  He is also a drug addict.  And he uses the drugs to almost control Lace.  I don’t think he means it as a control technique but I am not sure as an addict he would ever see it.  Bryan is really sweet, but he has issues too and allows War too much control for a time.  And poor Lace.  I really love her as a character.  You see her grow up in flash backs and see why she is the way she is. 

So, who will win in this love triangle?  War, Bryan or Lace?  Or will they all lose in the end?  Read this book and find out.  You won’t regret it. 

I am betting that this was a difficult book for the author to write.  It tackles the difficult subject of drug addiction.  At first when I was reading about the drug use, it made me cringe, but I know the reasons why she includes such graphic details and I applaude her for the courage to write about such a hard topic.  In fact, a portion of all her first day sales went to covenant house. They counsel and assist at risk teens like my heroine in the story. This is an excerpt from the mission statement on their website http://www.covenanthouse.org/ Homeless kids have rights. They have the right to a home ... the right to food ... the right to guidance and an education … the right to be free from sexual, emotional, or physical abuse ... and the right to be free from exploitation. These kids have the right to be safe and – most important – to be loved.  It makes that click on Amazon basically seem free for me.

Lara, who now goes by Amy has been on the run for the last 6 years.  New York City has become her most recent "home."  She's made friends, has a job she actually loves until one night a note taped to a bathroom mirror has her on the run again.  She is forced to walk away from everyone and everything, leaving no trace behind she heads to the airport to catch a flight which will take her to Denver, CO.

While en route to her new "home" Amy meets architect prodigy and billionaire Liam Stone.  For reasons she cannot begin to comprehend she finds herself inexplicably drawn to this stranger.  He challenges her, helps keep her monsters at bay. She is clearly attracted to him and he to her but she knows after the flight she must never see him again.  

Liam is a man who knows what he wants and will not stop until he has it, and what he wants is Amy.  Upon landing in Denver he insists on taking her to her new apartment, then he insists on walking her up.  Amy wants to say no, she knows she needs to say no but in the end she allows herself one night with Liam.  One night to escape her reality, because when she is with him nothing else matters.  

One night turns into another night and another.  Amy tries to end things, but Liam knows it's not what she wants and won't allow her to walk away.  He seems to know she is on the run, but doesn't press her for reasons nor does he ask questions.  Amy on the other hand isn't sure how much longer she can keep up the lies, will she come clean or will she run away?

This was my first Lisa Renee Jones book and I thoroughly enjoyed the mystery that surrounds both Amy and Liam.  The entire book I was running from theory to theory as to who Amy really was, what happened 6 years ago that's forced her into hiding, who is after her and why?  Does Liam really care for Amy, is he connected to her past, what will he do if she tells him the truth?  Honestly I thought I had a pretty good idea where the story was going but then the cliffhanger ending hit me head-on and now I have no idea what to think about either of them.  I CANNOT believe the ending!  It left me wanting more, needing to know more, even more invested in the story than I was at the half way point.  I am definitely looking forward to the sequel, Infinite Possibilities, which is due out next month.    

At the moment you can get Escaping Reality for $.99, which in my opinion is a real deal for a book that is so full of mystery and suspense with a good dose of steam!  Amy and Liam seem perfect for each other in every way, so different yet so much alike.  Both hiding from things in their past but finding the perfect escape in each other.  He is all dominate male one minute and then incredibly sweet and romantic the next.  I genuinely feel as though these two are falling in love, maybe that wasn't the plan and who knows what's going to happen in the sequel with the ending of Escaping Reality, but I'm hoping, fingers crossed, these two find a eventually find a HEA together!

The Wager (The Bet #2), by Rachel Van Dyken

When I started The Wager I wasn't sure if I would be able to fall in love with Jake Titus, if you've read The Bet then you know all about his selfish womanizing ways.  Let's just say he had a lot of work to do to redeem himself in my eyes, but believe it or not he actually did!

In The Wager you get to watch first hand as Jake slowly transforms from his cocky womanizing ways and falls in love with a former fling and childhood friend, Char.  She is someone he has always been attracted to but never felt worthy of.  On the other hand Char has been in love with Jake for as long as she can remember, but every time she allows herself to get close to him he ALWAYS disappoints her.  Their last encounter has left her with an even bigger chip on her shoulder and now the two are expected to work together as they help Kacey and Travis with the final wedding arrangements.  As the saying goes its a fine line between love and hate, these two have some serious chemistry and when it explodes its hot! She is the maid of honor and he is the best man, its the perfect scenario and in the end we are rewarded with an absolutely heartwarming, funny romantic comedy with a good dose of steam.

Grandma Nadine feels responsible for Jake's current reputation, believing everything was handed to him too easily and it's her intention to bring him down a few notches.  Watching her "ruin" him was some of the funniest parts of this book.  Grandma may be a secondary character, but I swear she steals the show on more than one occasion.  This woman is an absolute hoot!  She is loving, wise, manipulative, confident, outrageous and the list could go on.  I think everyone needs a Grandma Nadine in their lives.  What an awesome character, purely genius to create her Rachel Van Dyken!

The story is told mainly from the perspective of Jake and Char however we are also treated to the perspectives of Travis and Kacey.  What you get is a well rounded story that fits together seamlessly.  There is also the added bonus of still seeing Travis and Kacey very much in love.  It's as if you are actually getting to witness their wedding first hand.

The Wager was such a fun enjoyable read.  It was a lighthearted story that filled my heart and hooked me from the first chapter.  This book had me laughing, so hard sometimes my eyes were watering.  Yet there were also some very sweet, sentimental moments which pulled my heartstrings and brought actual tears to my eyes.  I cannot express enough how much I truly LOVED this feel good romantic comedy!  And for $2.99 its a total bargain, I'm serious go ahead and buy this book, it won't disappoint.

Truthfully, I have kind of been in a funk lately.  We started this blog and then all hell broke loose at work and I feel like I haven’t even been able to read and review books very much and my poor BFF has been picking up the slack for me.  (Thanks Kelly!)  So anyway, Kelly has been on a huge Rachel Van Dyken kick since she read and reviewed Elite and Ruin and has been after me to read The Bet, especially since The Wager was set to be released.  Now, I have been really wanting to read and drown myself in a book for a couple of weeks.  The last book I read was This Much Is True and it was great, but sometimes you just need some funny, happy go lucky, steamy, incredibly amazing books that help you escape the shit you have for reality at the time.  So, I started The Bet today, and it did not disappoint!  If you have never read this book or other RVD books what is your problem?  Don’t delay like I did, go and drown in the abyss of the Titus Brothers!  They are so great! 

This book begins with 2 brothers as children and their childhood best friend Kacey.  I just love when books open up with kids and you see all their antics as a child.  One of my other favorite books, That Boy does the same thing.  It always sucks me into the story!  So basically, in the first chapter you see a bet take place with a blood/spit oath between Jake and Travis Titus about who is going to marry Kacey.  It is so adorable!  Flash forward 10+ years and see what has happened to the three of them and you are screwed.  Whatever you have been doing is immediately ignored because you have to see what is going to happen in their lives!  So when you begin this obsession, be prepared to ignore everything but the book. 

Basically, Kacey has history with both brothers and really their entire family and the book unfolds over the course of Labor Day weekend.  Kacey has returned home to Portland because Grandma Nadine (The Titus brothers grandma) is on her supposed death bed.  Grandma Nadine is a hoot!  Seriously, I aspire to be like her when I am old and grey, still wearing 6 inch heels and vain as ever.  She is quite the manipulator as well.  (What can I say, I dream big)  She is the one running the whole show even though other people think they are in control.
