Review: Spin, by CD Reiss

Synopsis
Mafia capo, Antonio Spinelli blew through my orderly life like a cyclone.

Gorgeous and passionate, with a breathtaking brutality, he put me under his spell the moment he touched me, drawing me into his underworld of risk, violence and betrayal.

And I found, just as this sophisticated savage didn’t trust me, I didn’t trust myself. Something happened to me. Some alchemy from the heat between us.

I discovered I was a savage, too.

This is my first book by CD Reiss and I was excited to start it after hearing so many good things about her Song of Submission series.  While I had no idea what to expect with the story line, in the end it was definitely a book I enjoyed.

Theresa is this beautiful, loyal, incredibly intelligent woman whose life got a whole lot more complicated when she caught her fiance, who is running for mayor, cheating on her with his speech writer.  He is all she has ever known and his loss in her life is almost unbearable.  She  still loves him, it's clear she still cares about him and would do anything to help support his political race, but she just cannot find it in herself to forgive him and move on.  Well at least not until Antonio Spinelli comes storming into her life.

Antonio is this alpha male powerhouse of a character.  While there is not doubt he is gorgeous and has a soft, caring, protective side to him, Theresa can sense even from the first time they meet he's also dangerous, but it isn't until much later she realizes just how dangerous he really is.  Does she want a life with Antonio or will her heart always be with her ex-fiance.

Theresa and Antonio have this instant lust-filled attraction.  I could tell from early on it wasn't going to be something she could easily walk away from.  While Theresa's emotions over Daniel (the ex-fiance) and whether or not she really wanted anything more with Antonio other than a fling were bouncing all over the place I kind of felt the same way with my opinion of the story.  I love a good dominate, take no prisoners male character, but I found myself having a hard time connecting with Antonio.  Perhaps it's because we don't ever really learn much about him or what he's thinking, or maybe its because I felt as though his possessive streak came to fast to soon.

I understood where Theresa was coming from, I felt her feelings and emotions were warranted and I really loved watching her work through the things in her mind, finally realizing what it is she wants out of life and eventually going after it without any reservations whatsoever.  For me it was this evolvement of her character that made the book worthwhile.

Don't get me wrong if you looking for something with good, strong, hot smut then you're definitely not going to be disappointed in Antonio or this book!  For me though I like to feel connected to both main characters, I want to believe without a shadow of a doubt their feelings for one another have grown past the initial lust to love, and I want to be able to feel that love.  Honestly I had a hard time believing they move past being in lust to being in love.  However, on the other hand even without the emotional connection I crave I still found myself invested in the story, not wanting to put it down until all the scenarios played themselves out!  It's obvious CD Reiss is a talented author with a great ability to tell stories.
